About this file

This document contains sample requirements for a six-axis UHV (Ultra-High Vacuum) sample manipulation system. The system must be capable of supporting and manipulating a 25.4 mm diameter, 10 g sample within a 100 mm diameter by 300 mm tall envelope. Key requirements include six axes of motion (X, Y, Z, roll, pitch, and yaw) with specified ranges of motion, speeds, and resolutions. The system must maintain a vacuum rating of 10^-9 mbar or lower, and include LabVIEW-compatible software and a single 8" CFF vacuum feedthrough. Vendors must be registered in SAM.gov.

This document is related to a federal contract opportunity from the Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for a Six-Axis UHV Sample Manipulation System. The solicitation number is 1333ND24QNB030492. The description indicates this is a combined synopsis/solicitation, and all pertinent details are provided in the attached documents.

Sample manipulation system

• Sample:

• 25.4 mm dia. x 10 mm thickness

• Mass 10 g (mount will add ~27 g)

• System must support and manipulate sample (with safety factor of 2) as described on slides 2 and 3.

• Axes:

• 6 axes: X,Y, Z, Roll, Pitch & Yaw (see slide 2)

• Place face of sample at center of Roll, Pitch, and Yaw axes.

• Theta portion of theta-2-theta system. Base plate must have reference (pin) positions to allow accurate (± 20 µm) coalignment with existing 2-theta stage.

• System size: full mechanical stage system must fit within a 100 mm dia.x 300 mm tall envelope (see slide 2)

• Vacuum rating: ≤ 10-9 mbar

• Software: Labview VI’s SDK and generic GUI (Windows) required

• Vacuum feed through: all axis controls/electrical must pass through single 8” CFF feed through flange. Must be included with proposal.

• All power supplies, controllers and cables must be included in any proposal.

• Vendor must be registered in SAM.gov

Acceptable Sample height from base range (with Z-stage at center of travel):

150 mm – 195 mm mounting plates/brackets

Y-stage Y

Yaw-stage (about Y-axis)

Z X and Z stage(s)

Goniometer/tip-tilt/pitch stage (about x axis, centered on roll axis)

Roll stage (about Z-axis)

Must fit into cylindrical envelope:

100 mm in diameter, 300 mm tall

Y-stage base must be pin-able such that the center of yaw-rotation can be aligned to the center of the cylindrical envelope
