About this file
This document is a Request for Expressions of Interest from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to acquire land for a new or expanded national cemetery near Beaufort, South Carolina. VA is seeking either at least 15 acres within a three-mile radius of the existing Beaufort National Cemetery for an annex, or at least 50 acres within Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, or Dorchester Counties for a new cemetery. Interested parties must submit a detailed expression of interest by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on November 14, 2025, to Nam Tran via email, with specific required documentation including site location, zoning, ownership proof, legal descriptions, utility availability, environmental assessments, flood zone information, and other site characteristics.
The VA will only acquire a site based on fair market value as determined by a qualified appraiser and has several key restrictions, including avoiding sites within the 100-year flood plain and those with restrictive covenants unless no practicable alternative exists. Potential offerors must provide comprehensive information about the proposed site, including ownership details, utility access, environmental considerations, and potential development impacts. The VA reserves the right to eliminate sites from consideration if the required documentation is incomplete and may conduct a site selection tour for properties meeting initial criteria.
