About this file

This is a technical specifications document for wire rope and related components required under federal contract opportunity JO 941563P083.

The solicitation requires four wire rope line items with specific technical requirements. JML 61030120 specifies 650 feet of 42mm diameter, 35x7 bright compacted wire rope with a minimum breaking strength of 350,000 lbs, fitted with a spelter poured socket on one end and a welded becket link on the other. JML 61030121 requires 1,575 feet of 1-5/8" diameter, 6x41 preformed wire rope with 264,000 lbs minimum breaking strength and welded becket links on both ends. JML 61030122 and JML 61030123 each specify 775 feet of 1-5/8" diameter, 6x41 preformed wire rope with 264,000 lbs minimum breaking strength; JML 61030122 is right-lay (RRL) and JML 61030123 is left-lay (LRL), both fitted with a spelter poured socket on one end and welded becket link on the other, with length tolerances of +1%, -0% matched within 1.0 feet of each other. All wire ropes must comply with ASTM A1023 and include manufacturer test certificates documenting breaking strength. Spelter poured sockets must be proof tested to 200% of wire rope capacity.

Supporting items include JML 61030124 for 1-5/8" open spelter sockets requiring mild to medium carbon steel conforming to ASTM A27 (15 ft-lb fracture toughness minimum at 10°F) or high strength steel conforming to ASTM A148 Grades 80-40, 80-50, or 90-60 (30 ft-lb fracture toughness minimum at 10°F), with fracture toughness testing performed on sockets from the same lot. JML 61030125 specifies 1-5/8" wire rope clips with forged steel construction, galvanized finish, permanent manufacturer markings, compliance with ASME B30.26 and FF-C-450 Type 1 Class 1, and 90% efficiency when installed per manufacturer instructions.
