About this file
This document is a salient characteristics specification for BARS (Body Armor) equipment, outlining the key features and capabilities required for the system components.
The BARS Body Armor system consists of four primary components: the harness, plate pouches, cummerbund, and soft armor inserts. The harness is a lightweight structure designed to support heavy loads with padded interior comfort, featuring vertical and horizontal plate adjustment, unrestricted chest expansion, quick-release mechanisms, and a weight-transferring system that distributes load from the back to hips and legs. It provides front, back, and side protection coverage and is compatible with soft armor inserts in standard OCP camouflage pattern. The plate pouches are independent and removable, manufactured to specific plate sizes to prevent shifting, compatible with standard ballistic inserts and soft armor, and configurable with additional gear pouches externally. The cummerbund features multiple component configuration capability, drop leg holster compatibility, adjustable and locking buckles, elastic loops for strap management, lumbar support, and weight-transferring system compatibility. Soft armor inserts are sized and shaped specifically for plate pouches with front, back, and side options designed to fit behind armor plates. All components emphasize modularity, interchangeability, stability under heavy loads, and compatibility across the system in standard OCP camouflage pattern and colors.
