About this file

This document combines a synopsis and solicitation for a modular ultra high performance liquid chromatography system for the separation and analysis of small molecules and biologically produced compounds. The Army Research Laboratory at the Army Contracting Command Aberdeen Proving Ground requires a UHPLC system with an iron-free eluent flow path and modular, exchangeable components. The system must support user interface displays, solvent and waste monitoring, and tool-free maintenance. The binary pump must mix two or more solvents from six channels with adjustable flow rates from 0.001 to 8 mL/min and pressures from 2 to 100 MPa. The autosampler requires sample tracking, injection volume compensation, and sample storage for various container types with a capacity of at least 12 plates and temperature control at 4°C. Responses are due within ten business days of posting to the listed email address.

Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) or Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR)

The Contactor shall provide a ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) system with the specifications and characteristics:

UHPLC system specifications:

The complete eluent flow path must be iron-free for the analysis of biomolecules under eluent conditions (pH [power of hydrogen] 2-12, 1 mol/L [mole/liter] chloride concentration, with no buffer additive limitation).

It is desirable that each module of the system needs to be exchangeable without uninstalling the system for easiest possible routine maintenance.

The system must support an optional user interface that displays the system status, provides maintenance and service support through status feedback.

The system must support an optional solvent and waste monitoring system.

It is desirable that the column and sample loop changes must be possible without tools.

The system fluidics must have a finger tight fitting system for fast and tool-free maintenance.

Binary Pump Specifications:

The pump must mix from a selection of at least two (2) of at least six (6) different solvent channels.

Flow rate range must be adjustable in various increments including 0.001 - 8 milliliter/minute (mL/min), in 1 microliter/minute ( L/min) increments.

Operating pressures must be operational between 2 – 100 megapascal (MPa) (290 – 15,000 pounds per square inch [psi] with a flow range of 50 L/min to 5 mL/min. Above 5 mL/min, the pressure range must exhibit linearly characteristics while maintaining pressures above 80 MPa (800 bar [atmospheric pressure units], 11,600 psi).

Flow rate accuracy must be ±0.1% or better.

Flow rate precision must be < 0.05% root-mean square deviation (RSD).

The pump must support automatic compensation of the solvent compressibility over the course of a gradient, without manually adjusting software parameters.

The pump must have an adjustable purge function and automatic purging available through an autosampler.

The pump must operate with isokinetic, pre-compression technology, which allows for automatic compression compensation for any solvent or solvent mixture to provide pulsation–free flow.

Sampler Specifications:

The autosampler must operate at pressures including the range of 2 – 100 MPa (290 – 15,000 psi).

The autosampler must offer sample tracking via automated barcode recognition or similar capability.

The autosampler must compensate for injection shock, to improve retention time precision, column lifetime and integration accuracy of early eluting compounds.

The complete eluent flow path must be compatible with the analysis of biomolecules at eluent conditions (pH 2-12, max. 1 mol/L chloride concentration, no buffer additive limitation).

The injection system must be capable of high reproducibility injections with no sample loss.

The autosampler must support system status monitoring for operating hours, and functional activities such as total injections, injection valve switching etc... and keep a system log for routine maintenance.

The autosampler must include safety features such as a leak sensor, sample rack recognition, empty segment detection, and internal monitoring of all mechanical operations.

The autosampler must allow customization of velocities for drawing and dispensing of sample to compensate for sample viscosity.

The autosampler must support samples stored in the following types of sample containers: 54 × 12 millimeter (mm) Outer Diameter (OD) vials (=1.5 mL), 96 × 6, 7 and 8 mm OD vials (=1.2 mL), 16 × 15 mm OD vials (=4 mL), 9 × 22.5 mm OD vials (=10 mL) and well plates (96 and 384, deep and shallow).

The sample capacity needs to be field-expandable to allow for additional multi well sample plate capacity to up to at least 12 plates to allow for upgradable sample capacity.

The autosampler must control temperature at 4°C (+/- 6°C).

The sampler must have an injection range of 0.01–25 L.

The autosampler must be able to be expandable with the addition of sample loops to extend the injection volume to at least 100 L.

The autosampler must be able to operate with a minimum sample volume of two

(2) L with a one (1) L injection volume.

The Contractor shall deliver the product six (6) weeks after award to Army Research Laboratory-South University of Texas at Austin 2506 Speedway Ave., NMS 3.254 Austin, TX 78712.
