About this file
The document is a Salient Characteristics specification for a Firearm Simulator for the United States Air Force, dated 5 March 2025. The solicitation requires a firearms training simulator with specific technical requirements, including a scalable screen system capable of 5-12 training lanes in a 30x30x8 foot VR/AR Lab room, and comprehensive software capabilities for force protection training scenarios. The system must support realistic training for Religious Affairs personnel, featuring scenarios like active shooter responses, ambush situations, and encounters in diverse environments.
Key technical specifications include a requirement for five SIG M18 pistols using compressed air (not CO2), with wireless weapons that replicate real firearm characteristics including weight, recoil, and trigger response. The system must provide robust physical components, minimal maintenance, and include a compressed air fill station with magazine adapter. Additional requirements include comprehensive instructor training for seven faculty members, reliable technical support (0730-1630 CST weekdays), routine software updates via physical media, and a standard warranty. The solicitation is part of a Sources Sought market research process for Keesler AFB, with responses due by 1:00 PM CST on 04 April 2025.

• In order to be equal, it must have the following features:
o SCREEN
The system must be scalable to accommodate both small group and larger unit training, with a minimum of 5 lanes and the ability to expand to 12 lanes. The room that will be used is 30L x 30W x 8H. This is the VR/AR Lab room. The system must be able to plug into a 120-volt outlet. It should also allow for reconfiguration to incorporate changing mission requirements or new scenarios.
o SOFTWARE
The system must support a variety of training scenarios relevant to force protection, including defending personnel during high-threat incidents, reacting to active shooter situations, and providing security in close-quarter environments. It should replicate real-world stressors to familiarize Airmen with the weapon and how to use it in differing environments that could include active shooters, resistant suspects, ambush-style attacks, and encounters with those displaying signs of mental illness. Scenarios should be tailored to common conditions the Religious Affairs career field may encounter in deployed areas to include inside buildings, outside areas, and to include crowded areas
The system must adhere to military training standards, ensuring that force protection training is consistent, repeatable, and meets operational readiness requirements.
The system must include reliable technical support via call support between the hours of 0730 – 1630 CST on weekdays. Routine software updates to ensure ongoing functionality and relevance to force protection training needs must be able to get updates to the system using a CD, DVD, or flash drive. Connectivity to the Air Force network is not permitted due to safety concerns.
The simulator must provide a realistic and immersive experience, free of perceptible lag, to replicate high-stakes environments. It should allow students to seamlessly engage with realistic scenarios, enhancing situational awareness and decision-making under stress.
o SIG M18 PISTOL (QTY 5)
5 March 2025
Must provide a system that uses compressed air. CO2 will not be utilized.
The system must include simulated weapons that replicate the weight, balance, recoil, and trigger response of real firearms. Each lane should include a SIG M18 to reflect current field-issued equipment. Weapons must be wireless with no external components and must replicate the exact number of rounds contained in a magazine. It should also include point-of-aim, weapon status, trigger pressure and cant.
The system must include robust, high-quality physical components capable of withstanding frequent and intensive use. Simulated weapons and control interfaces should be built for long-term reliability.
o COMPRESSED AIR FILL STATION WITH M18 MAG ADAPTER o COMPRESSED AIR BOTTLE ASSEMBLY TO BE USED WITH FILL
STATION
• The system should require minimal maintenance, with easy-to-access parts and reliable vendor support to troubleshoot any potential issues with the equipment. It must enable our team to address minor malfunctions independently, ensuring that training interruptions are minimized.
• Comprehensive instructor training for a minimum of seven faculty members must be provided during system installation, including in-person sessions and instructional materials (e.g., videos) for future onboarding. This ensures instructors can effectively lead force protection training.
• The vendor shall provide a standard warranty.
