Statement Of Need

Description Of Need:

The USGS Geology, Energy, and Minerals Science Center (GEMSC) Reston Microbiology Laboratory

(RML) has a need to purchase a floor-standing autoclave. Autoclaves are necessary to generate sterile working solutions, glassware, and supplies for laboratory experiments and cultivation of microorganisms.

This process is required to ensure accurate, quality results and proper cultivation procedures.

Additionally, we must autoclave microbial waste prior disposal to follow safe biological hazard disposal procedures.

1. Minimum: 18” x 18” x 36”

2. Maximum: 22” x 22” x 42”

B. Chamber dimensions

1. Minimum: 50 liters

2. Maximum: 70 liters
