Salient Characteristic Sheet
The Marine Corps requires the rental of (8) snowmobile machines for use from 1 – 20 December 2023. The equipment must be within a 50 mile radius of Anchorage, AK.
Snowmobile requirements:
a. Utility/trail machine – machines will be ridden on trails and backcountry areas (mountain machines have too deep of tracks and will wear down faster)
b. 4-stroke – shall provide longer lasting, more reliable, and generally more power than 2-stroke
c. Two-up seating – shall provide bump plan for personnel should a sled break down
d. Extra tall windscreen – shall provide additional protection from wind at temperatures of 60 below
e. Heated visor plug in – shall provide additional protection from wind at temperatures of 60 below
f. Wide track (20”) – shall provide better traction and stability on ice as well as while towing
g. Heated grips – for both driver and passenger shall provide additional protection from wind at temperatures of 60 below
h. Front skid plate – shall protect machine from debris while riding
i. Storage Rack – shall provide extra cargo space allowing immediate access to extra cold weather gear and supplies
j. J-hook hitch – shall enable towing of utility sleds
k. Toolkits specific to machine – provided in case of breakdowns in austere environment
l. Block heater – shall ensure the machine will start in extreme temperatures.
Additional Equipment Required:
eight (8) sets of helmets for extreme temperatures
