About this file

The file is a Salient Characteristics document for a High Temperature Characterization Suite solicitation by the Department of the Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. The suite requires two systems: a dilatometer and a simultaneous thermal analyzer (STA), both with advanced technical specifications for high-temperature materials research. Key system requirements include maximum temperatures of 2800°C in inert atmospheres, capability for multiple sample measurements, controlled atmospheric conditions with vacuum and gas inputs, automatic software operation, and comprehensive calibration standards.

Additional procurement details specify both systems must operate on 240V single-phase power, comply with FCC electromagnetic compatibility regulations, and include two sets of wear parts and consumables. The vendor must provide on-site setup, training, 36-month preventative maintenance and warranty, phone support, and a commitment to support the system for a minimum of 10 years. Delivery is specified to DEVCOM-ARL at 6300 Rodman Road, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, with the complete system needing to fit through a 66-inch x 93-inch doorway. The solicitation (W911QX-25-Q-0071) is currently in pre-solicitation stage and seeks one complete High Temperature Characterization Suite.

Salient Characteristics

Commercial Availability Certification:

I have evaluated the commercial marketplace and determined that all of the salient characteristics documented below are available in products/services offered in the commercial marketplace.

Signature (typed name): Tucker Moore Technical Point of Contact (TPOC)

The High Temperature Characterization Suite will consist of two systems: a dilatometer and simultaneous thermal analyzer (STA). These systems will be used for characterizing thermal effects on high temperature materials like ceramics and refractory alloys.

Dilatometer

· The dilatometer will be oriented in a vertical configuration

· The maximum temperature of the furnace will be 2800° celsius (C) or higher in an inert atmosphere, and 1600°C or higher in an oxidizing atmosphere. This will likely be achieved through the use of swappable furnaces.

· The measurement system will be capable of simultaneous measurement of two (2) samples (e.g. sample and standard)

· The system will have a controlled atmosphere that will be automatically controlled by software

· Vacuum: the system will be equipped with a turbomolecular pump

· Gas: the system will be equipped with mass flow controller(s) with a minimum of three (3) gas inputs

· A control computer will be included with software for fully automatic operation of the system as well as for operating with rate controlled sintering

· Calibration standards will be included with the system that are applicable from room temperature to max temperature in inert and oxidizing environments

Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer

· The STA will be capable of simultaneously performing thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry measurements

· The maximum temperature of the STA will be 2400°C or higher in an inert atmosphere, and 1600°C or higher in an oxidizing atmosphere. This will likely be achieved through the use of swappable furnaces.

· The TGA will have a mass resolution of 0.1 micrograms (µg) or better with a maximum capacity of 35 grams (g) or higher

· The system will have a controlled atmosphere that will be automatically controlled by software

· Vacuum: the system will be equipped with a turbomolecular pump

· Gas: the system will be equipped with mass flow controller(s) with a minimum of three (3) gas inputs

· A control computer will be included with software for fully automatic operation of the system

· Calibration standards will be included with the system that are applicable from room temperature to max temperature in inert and oxidizing environments

· A minimum of 40 crucibles will be included of each of the following materials (if material not available, suitable alternatives will be considered)

· Tungsten

· Aluminum oxide

· Graphite

· Boron Nitride

Power and Cooling

· Both units must operate via 240 Volts (V), single phase, 60 Hertz (Hz) facility power.

· Assembled unit must comply with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) code of the United States (US): Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Radio Frequency Devices Regulations, 47 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 15 (or internationally recognized equivalent).

Spare Parts

· Two (2) sets each of all wear parts and consumables will be provided, including but not limited to:

· Fuses

· O-rings

· Thermocouples

Additional Requirements

· The system as delivered in packaging must be able to fit through a doorway with dimensions of 66 inches (in) x 93 in (Width (W) x Height (H))

· All safety and regulation systems/devices have redundancies to ensure automatic shutdown (return to safe) in the event of total power failure at peak operating temperature.

· Unit must be capable of stand-alone operation without the need for internet or other remote interfacing.

· On site service for set up and training of both systems.

· Preventative maintenance included for 36 months starting from the date that each system is both installed and demonstrated to be fully functional.

· Warranty included for 36 months starting from the date that each system is both installed and demonstrated to be fully functional.

· Delivery to DEVCOM-ARL at 6300 Rodman Road FCDD-RLW-ME, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD.

· Support of system for a minimum of ten (10) years.

· Phone support shall be included.
