Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) or Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR)

The Electromagnetic Materials and Devices Branch at ARL requires one (1) probe station enclosure to shield its Micromanipulator P200L semi-automated probe station from light and outside electromagnetic interference (EMI). The required enclosure shall have the following minimum characteristics:

1. A shielded, light-tight enclosure suitable for containing a Micromanipulator P200L semi-automatic probe station. Interior dimensions shall not be less than 34 inches (”) by (x) 34” x 34”.

2. Faraday cage. The enclosure shall minimize impact of external sources of electromagnetic interferene on the equipment stored inside.

3. Light shielding. The enclosure shall prevent ambient light from illuminating the equipment stored inside. General opaqueness, with an emphasis of the UV spectrum, is needed.

4. Operator access lid. The enclosure shall have a articulating piece to allow an operator to open the enclosure and access the interior in order to perform adjustments to the equipment stored inside. The access lid shall be operable, opening and closing, with a single hand.

5. Safety interlock. The enclosure shall be configured such that an interlock switch is opened when the access lid is opened, in order to disable outputs of equipment that may pose hazards to an operator. There shall be a method by which to tie this switch into an exterior interlock circuit.

6. Cable pass-through. The enclosure shall have a space set aside to allow cables to pass from the exterior of the enclosure to the interior. Design of this pass-through will incorporate features to minimize ingress of light or EMI. Pass-through shall be accessible from either the rear of the enclosure or else the left or right side of the enclosure near the rear (only one side is required).

7. The enclosure shall be able to sit on top of a standard laboratory workbench, or else be free-standing.

8. The enclosure must not transmit excessive vibrations, whether from the ambient environment or due to opening/closing the access lid, so as to interfere with the operation of a probe station stored inside the enclosure. The equipment will be operated in a laboratory bay.
