STATEMENT OF WORK

Project Title:

Sample Well Installations

Project Locations and POC:

Pasture Systems & Watershed Management Research Unit (PSWMRU) University Park, PA 16802 Property near Leck Kill, PA POC: Gordon Folmar (814) 863-8763 Alt POC: Terry Troutman (570) 425-2388

Project Summary:

The USDA-Agricultural Research Service is conducting research into groundwater travel times to clarify the dominant subsurface pathways for nutrient transport. The overall objective is to evaluate the variation in concentrations of age-dating tracers at multiple depths in order to assign relative ages to groundwater zones in the fractured-bedrock aquifer underlying the Mahantango Creek watershed.

Technical Requirements:

The project requires contractor to provide all labor, tools, material, supervision and equipment necessary to install three clusters of wells (the approximate placement specifications for each well cluster are shown in the attached Site Map). Each well in the cluster will be spaced laterally within three feet of each other at depths of 20 feet, 40 feet, and 60 feet.

For each piezometer, contractor will drill from ground surface down to desired depth and install a 2-in schedule 40 PVC casing for the entire length of the borehole with the bottom 2-feet of casing being ‘screened’ and the remainder ‘solid’. Each well is less than 60 feet, classifying it as “shallow”. The screen will be smaller than the surrounding material of sand and gravel.

The Contractor will also install sand outside of the section of screened casing as well as bentonite hole-plug around the solid portion of the casing over the remainder of the borehole length. At least 2-feet of solid PVC casing is to extend above the ground surface for each piezometer upon completion. The project’s monitoring equipment will provide a lockable seal for the borehole. ARS will provide water for drilling operations.

This research project is expected to last less than 10 years. Upon completion, ARS will fill and cap the wells.

Contractor will provide all other materials needed for the completion of the project and is responsible for contacting the Dig Safely hotline to clear underground utilities prior to drilling.

Deliverables:

Satisfactory completion of three clusters of three piezometers (9 total piezometers) consisting of 2-in cased holes screened only at the bottom two-feet of the casing.

General Requirements:

All Work shall be performed during normal work hours of 7:30am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

The Contractor shall provide a project schedule within fourteen (14) days after the date of receipt of award towards ensuring work is successfully completed within the stipulated period of performance. Schedule shall include significant milestones to include, but not be limited to:

Notice to Proceed Date Submittal Submission Date Government Review Time (2 weeks) Submittal Approval Date Construction Start Date Construction End Date Final Acceptance

Project Schedule:

The period of performance shall be x days from Notice to Proceed.

Submittals:

Submit to the Contracting Officer (CO), Engineering Project Manager (EPM), and Location Monitor (LM) for review and approval, manufacturer’s product data for all products proposed for the project prior to purchasing or releasing for fabrication.

Comments and approval of the submittals by the Government shall not be construed as releasing the Contractor from compliance with the specified requirements herein or any applicable Codes.

Material Submittals for Approval Provide for all materials (PVC pipe and screening) to be utilized and installed under this Contract. Draft and submit for Government review within ten (10) days of Notice to Proceed, a submittal log listing the required submittal requirements of the project. Distribute product submittals as follows:

CO, EPM, and LM: Submittals in pdf format via email.
