About this file
This document is an Amendment (0001) to a solicitation for solid waste and recycling disposal services at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago. The amendment primarily addresses vendor questions and provides clarifications about the waste disposal contract. Key details include estimated yearly waste volumes: 530 tons for the main facility, 140 tons for Polk Street compactor (general rubbish), 100 tons for Taylor Street cardboard, and additional waste from Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). The VA owns one Sanipak compactor, and sharps will be handled under a separate contract. The solicitation (36C25225Q0466) involves multiple container sizes and frequencies, including 8-yard and 2-yard containers for mixed paper/cardboard and commingled recyclables, with containers to be emptied five times per week. The original solicitation due date remains unchanged, and vendors were directed to reference the previous contract (36C25225D0019) in the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS) for incumbent information.

Vendor Questions & Answers Q: Is there an incumbent? What is the contract number?
A: View contract 36C25225D0019 information via FPDS (https://www.fpds.gov) for incumbent information.
Q: We would like to know if this is a brand-new contract OR if there is (was) an incumbent performing these services. If not brand new, could you please provide the current / previous contract number?
A: Similar question already answered – see above.
Q: Who is the current contracted vendor for this solicitation?
A: Similar question already answered – see above.
Q: Is it possible to obtain an estimate of the tonnage for this solicitation?
A: Main facility: estimated 530 tons yearly Polk Street compactor (general rubbish) charged flat fee per pull; 140 tons yearly Taylor Street and Polk Street open tops (C&D) charged flat fee per pull; estimated 100 tons Taylor Street cardboard charged flat fee per pull; CBOCs waste and recyclables not weighted and are being charged flat rate per pull.
Q: Do you have, and can you provide a list of all currently VA owned compactors at each site required within the solicitation?
A: Sanipak compactor is owned. No others.
Q: Item Number 1001, San-I-Pak 34IL Treatment System Container, are sharps deposited into the San-I-Pak autoclave or are they handled separately and picked up in a separate container? Examples of sharps: needles, syringes, etc.
A: Sharps are handled separately and picked up under a different contract. Not processed via Sanipak.
Q: For the Polk Street Dock, the bid documents list an 8-yard container being hauled 5 times per week for mixed paper/cardboard, and a second 8-yard container being hauled 5 times per week for commingled recyclables. During the site visit it was noted there are currently two – 2-yard containers in that location, one for each waste stream, and the containers are currently being emptied 5 times per week. Additionally, it was noted that two separate 8-yard containers will not fit in this space. Does the government wish to update the bid documents to specify 2 – 2-yard containers being emptied 5 times per week?
A: No update is required. There is one container out on the grounds and the other container that was seen by the stairs would be to the left of the space it was seen in.
