Specifications for MechoShade Rollershades Department of Veterans Affairs VA Palo Alto Healthcare System 3801 Miranda Ave. Palo Alto, CA 94304

Project:Stockton CBOC – Window Shades
Project Address: 6505 S. Manthey Rd, French Camp, CA 95231

1. General A. New Roller Shade window treatment needs to shield the staff from sun light, glare, and heat gain on the perimeter windows especially the south and west side of the building. Based on the location of this facility Mecho Shade EcoViel band fabrics with 1% openness and/ Chealsea Blackout shades where indicated on drawings at exterior perimeter windows throughout the facility. This will apply to all Motorized and Manually operated roller shades with either single or double rollers. Double roll-shade cloths will include a second black-out roller-shade in the same metal pocket.

B. Statement of Line Requirements

B.1 Solar Shadecloth Collection: EcoViel Screens 0950 1% Open

1. Mechoshade Sustainability and Performance Collections SoHo 1100

2. Shadecloth is composed of 100% polyester – PVC FREE

3. Stocked: 63” and 118” wide rolls

4. Acoustic Performance 0.50 NRC or higher

5. Provide optimal solar shading

6. Contractor must assess and field measure the windows prior to submitting the bid

7. Shadecloth Anti-Microbial Characteristics: 'No Growth' per ASTM G 21 results for fungi ATCC9642, ATCC 9644, ATCC9645.

8. Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: Passes NFPA 701-99 small and large-scale vertical burn. Materials tested shall be identical to products proposed for use.

9. Contains zero chemical flame retardants, formaldehyde, antimicrobials, or PFC’s

B.2 Solar Shadecloth Collection: Chelsea Blackout 0250 Series – 0% openness

1. Mechoshade Blackout Shade Cloth Collections

2. Shadecloth is composed of approximately 50% Acrylic Coating and 50% polyester – PVC FREE

3. Shadecloth is available with a graphite/charcoal or white-colored backing

4. Stocked: 126” wide min.

5. Provide optimal solar shading

6. Contractor must assess and field measure the windows prior to submitting the bid

7. Shadecloth Anti-Microbial Characteristics: 'No Growth' per ASTM G 21 results for fungi ATCC9642, ATCC 9644, ATCC9645.

8. Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: Passes NFPA 701-99 small and large-scale vertical burn. Materials tested shall be identical to products proposed for use.

9. GreenGuard certified

B.3 Roller Shade Pocket: ElectroPocket and Non-ElectroPocket

1. Provide premanufactured ElectroPocket and Non-ElectroPocket from MechoShade with removeable closure panel, for recessed mounting in acoustical tile, or drywall ceilings as indicated on the Construction Drawings.

2. Provide either extruded aluminum and or formed steel shade pocket with extruded aluminum trim for all exposed components, sized to accommodate roller shades, with exposed extruded aluminum closure, tile support and removable closure panel to provide access to shades. The max roll diameter shall provide a minimum of clearance of 1/4 inch (6 mm) from the top and 2 sides of the pocket and 1/2 inch (13 mm) clear from the inside of the accessible pocket closure.

a.Provide "Vented Pocket" such that there will be a minimum 12 sq inch (7742 sq mm) of return air per lineal foot allowing the solar gain to flow above the ceiling line into the plenum or over the roller shades into the interior space.
b.Provide High STC (Sound Transmission Class) stops as required between adjacent spaces.

3. Provide ETL/UL 235 Approved extruded aluminum KD ElectroPocket, in 10 ft. (3048 mm) lengths assembled on job site, with an integrated wiring raceway and mounting clips for:

a. Line Voltage disconnect connectors.

b. Wireless receivers.

c. Low Voltage splitters.

d. Daisy chain non-plenum wiring raceway and integrated pocket assembly. Models shown in A/E drawings below – Contractor to Verify in field and determine actual size requirements prior to ordering.

Model: ElectroPocket 4123 with tile support.

a. Dimensions: (W x H): 5-15/16 x 5-1/4 inch x 15’-0” Model: ElectroPocket Model 5113 without tile support.

a. Dimensions: (W x H): 8-3/4 x 9-1/2 inch

4. Hembars: Designed to maintain bottom of shade straight and flat.

a. Full wrapped fabric covered bottom bar, flat profile with heat sealed closed end.

b. Room-Darkening Shades: Provide a slot in bottom bar with wool-pile light seal.

c. Room-Darkening Channels, Standard: Extruded aluminum side and center channels with brush pile edge seals, SnapLoc mounting base, and concealed fasteners. Channels to accept one-piece exposed blackout hembar to assure side light control and sill light control.

5. Components capable of being removed or adjusted without removing mounted shade brackets, or cassette support channel.

6. Smooth operation raising or lowering shades.

7. Cradle-to-Cradle certified for the complete shade system including operating hardware and shadecloth. Listed in C2C (DIR).

2. Warranty Requirements

a. Manufacturer will provide Warranty documents for building owner acceptance.

b. Minimum of ten (10) years warranty on Roller Shade, brackets, mounting hardware, and chains etc..

c. Roller Shades Motors, Motor Control system, and accessories: Manufacturer’s standard non-depreciating five (5) year warranty.

d. Blackout Shade Chelsea cloth and 1% open EuroViel 25 year warranty on fabric.

e. The product will be free from defects in material and workmanship in normal use and service.

f. Manufacturer will repair or replace any defective parts falling under a limited warranty for ten (10) years from the date of purchase and will be responsible for reasonable labor and shipping costs incident to repairing or replacing any such defective parts, subject to the exclusions set forth herein.

g. Manufacturer will repair or replace, at manufacturer’s option, any part of the product, or the entire product, that is defective in material or workmanship in normal use and service.

h. An MS (MechoShade) Warranty applies to MS products fabricated by MechoShade Systems, LLC Lifetime Limited Warranty is defined to be the life of the project for which it was originally purchased, not to exceed 25 years from the date of shipment for specified products only. Warranty for unnamed hardware and fabrics shall not exceed 10 years from date of shipment. Warranty for unnamed electronics shall not exceed five years.

i. This Warranty extends only to the original buyer of MS (MechoShade) products that have been installed by an authorized MS Dealer representative. MS shall be promptly notified of all complaints or claimed product defects with sufficient time for MS to inspect the product on site or at the dealer’s facility.

3. Technical Specification and Code Requirements

a. Product Listing Organization Qualifications: An organization recognized by OSHA as a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) and acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.

b. Manufacturer Qualifications: Obtain roller shades system through one source from a single manufacturer with a minimum of ten years’ experience and minimum of five projects of similar scope and size in manufacturing products comparable to those specified in this section.

c. GreenGuard Gold certified

d. PVC – Free

e. Fire Classification NFPA 701

f. Acoustic Performance 0.60 NRC/0.58 SAA or greater.

g. Shadecloth Anti-Microbial Characteristics: 'No Growth' per ASTM G 21 results for fungi ATCC9642, ATCC9644, ATCC9645.

h. Environmental Certification: Submit written certification from the manufacturer, including third party evaluation, recycling characteristics, and perpetual use certification as specified. Initial submittals, which do not include the Environmental Certification will be rejected. Materials that are simply 'PVC free' without identifying their inputs shall not qualify as meeting the intent of this specification and shall be rejected.

i. Third Party Evaluation: Provide documentation stating the shade cloth has undergone third party evaluation for all chemical inputs, down to a scale of 100 parts per million, that have been evaluated for human and environmental safety. Identify any and all inputs, which are known to be carcinogenic, mutagenic, teratogenic, reproductively toxic, or endocrine disrupting. Also identify items that are toxic to aquatic systems, contain heavy metals, or organ halogens. The material shall contain no inputs that are known problems to human or environmental health per the above major criteria, except for an input that is required to meet local fire codes.

j. Recycling Characteristics: Provide documentation that the shade cloth can and is part of a closed loop of perpetual use and not be required to be down cycled, incinerated or otherwise thrown away. Scrap material can be sent back to the mill for reprocessing and recycling into the same quality yarn and woven into new material, without down cycling. Certify that this process is currently underway and will be utilized for this project.

k. Perpetual Use Certification: Certify that at the end of the useful life of the shade cloth, that the material can be sent back to the manufacturer for recapture as part of a closed loop of perpetual use and that the material can and will be reconstituted into new yarn, for weaving into new shade cloth. Provide information on each shade band indicating that the shade band can be sent back to the manufacturer for this purpose.

4. Environmental Features

a. At Face-tiled walls support power, data and security cabling and components, the cavity is easily accessible for small additions, moves and changes without damage or waste.

b. Disinfect with: Hydrogen Peroxide solution.

c. Cradle to Cradle Certified product, able to be reclaimed recycled, and remain in a perpetual loop of continuous use.

5. Dimensions and Features

a. Exact dimensions of existing wall conditions or hold-to dimensions for constructed walls and shade pockets to be built, will need to be established prior to production.

b. Contractor is responsible for field verification of building dimensions prior to manufacturing. Coordination required with General Contractor and VA Interior Designer or Project Manager.

6. Delivery, Storage and Handling

a. Deliver in factory-labeled packages, marked with manufacturer and product name, fire-test-response characteristics, and location of installation using same room designations indicated on Drawings and in Window Treatment Schedule.

b. Store and handle products per manufacturer's recommendations.
