Regarding Schedule Item #4 Crushed Rock Installed – on page 61-6, paragraph C. Crushed Rock, Installed of the specification package it states > “No Crushed rock shall be delivered to the site until the Contracting Officers Representative verifies that foundation conditions warrant the use of such material.” This is an optional Item for this project, the COR will decide if it is needed at the pre-construction meeting.

Questions:

Q1: Is there going to be a need for a Port-a-Potty (chemical toilet)?

A1 : Yes, According to Page 8-2 of the specification mobilization. “This item shall also include providing a chemical toilet (port-a-potty) on each job site.”

Q2. The Specifications state that the riprap thickness will be 48” in section 8 a, however the drawing shows 24” thickness. What thickness will be desired, as this will affect the gradation according to the table included in section 8 a of the specifications?

A2. There is an error in the construction specification items of work for Rock Riprap installed. On page 61-4 under paragraph a. line (1). The thickness of 48” for riprap should read thickness of 24” (which matches page 2 on the construction drawings.)

Q3. From the drawings it appears the stabilization ends slightly before the existing electrical pole in jeopardy at the site seen in the attached picture. Is the contractor to slope the western bank of the channel to a 2:1 up to the electrical pole?

A3: This electric pole, in the photo, is not in jeopardy of being in the slope of the shaping limits. The channel liner will go from Station 0+00 to Station 2+60 the electric pole in the picture is approximately 20 ft. beyond station 2+60.

Q4. Is it anticipated that import fill will be needed prior to the riprap bedding placement or will the onsite earthen be used to shape the channel as desired?

A4: There is no anticipation of imported fill material needed on this project. The earth material from the shaping of the 2:1 slope on the west bank will be used as fill material, if needed.

Q5. What size rip rap will be desired 12”, 18”, or 24” and what overall thickness (depth).

A5. A1: The size of the riprap for Bid Item #2 is dictated by the thickness (24”) on the gradation table on Page 61-5 in the specification (Top of the page).

The gradation reads as below.

Max size is = 24” Avg. Weight = 225-400 lbs.

Avg size = 15-18 inch None smaller than = 9 in.

Any gradation that a rock quarry provides will need to meet the criteria from the table on page 61-5. It is the understanding of the technical representative that most rock quarry’s call this 12-inch riprap.

Comments from the County Commissioner Staff:
