Steel Rigid Containment Berms Salient Characteristics Provide two (2) each rigid containment systems where the contractor is to provide all labor, management, supervision, tools, materials, equipment and transportation to provide Fuel Truck Containment berms at Bradshaw Army Airfield which is part of the Pahakuloa Training Area on the Big Island of Hawaii. This project will meet the environmental regulations to provide fuel truck containment for spill prevention.

This requirement includes but is not limited to the following to provide fuel truck containment for spill prevention.

a. The fuel truck containment system will consist of durable construction material made of heavy-gauge steel and steel plate to provide a fuel truck containment system for spill prevention. The rigid containment berms shall be leak-proof to provide a secondary containment of fuel or other liquids that could potentially harm the environment.

b. The reinforced heavy-gauge steel walls with steel supports shall provide a strong engineering design so that if the fuel truck runs over the sidewalls, the side walls will not buckle or collapse. The drive-over sidewalls shall be 90 degrees from the ground surface on the outside of the containment system. The fuel truck containment berm shall be made so a fully loaded MK31 truck and M970 trailer can be driven on it or over its sidewalls without damage. The approximate weight of a fully loaded vehicle is 90,000 pounds.

c. The dimension of the fuel truck and trailer combo are 52 feet long X 8 feet wide. The overall length of the containment system must not exceed 85 feet in length and 16 feet in width and 10 inches high. The dimensions of the fuel truck containment berm will be 56 feet long X 16 feet wide X 10 inches high. This will provide a spill capacity of over 5,000 gallons to allow a MK31 truck and a M970 trailer to be stored simultaneously for long periods of time.

d. Two sets of heavy-gauge steel ramps shall be provided for each fuel truck containment berm for a drive-thru configuration. The heavy-gauge steel ramps will be approximately 5’ up / 5’ down with the dimensions to fit the width of the rigid containment berms and to be approximately 9” to 10” high (height of sidewalls).

e. Drain ports shall be installed in the containment area to allow for safe drainage of precipitation from the containment area.

f. Each rigid containment berm shall have a protective coating to provide a durable finish and allow the rigid containment berms to be weather resistant.

g. Lifting lugs shall be installed on each of the steel rigid containment berms so that it must be able to be moved with a crane during offloading and during installation and/or dismembered and repositioning if the fuel truck containment berms needs to be moved.
