Text version

Here are the responses to the questions received from the bidders on the Big Spring Replace Backflow Preventers. The question that was asked is listed first, and then the BOP’s answer is in bold. I have also identified whether it is just a mere clarification or an amendment item (something that has changed, been added or deleted). If you require further clarification, please advise John Holleman.

What is the process of getting heavy machines in for lifting? You can bring heavy machinery in but will have to give 24 Hour advance notice for extra escorting. Clarification

Is there a lay down area for the Contractors equipment? Yes, there is a lay down area for the Contractor to use. Clarification

How long have the Back Flow Preventers been installed? Approximately 12 years. Clarification

Do all Backflow Preventers have shut off Valves and Y-Strainers? All Backflow Preventers have shut off valves, and they are not required to have Y-Strainers. Clarification

What is the local registration requirement for the Testers? Contractor shall test and certify each newly installed BPD’s in accordance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) 290.44(h), Environmental Protection Agency Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and manufacturer’s recommendations.

Clarification

Can devices be isolated? Yes all devices can be isolated. Clarification

Will inmates be away from area being worked on? Contractors will be escorted at all times. Clarification

What will be the work hours? The work hours, for the Rear Gate is 7:30 am to 3:00 pm to enter and exit the institution. Clarification

Do we have the Serial Numbers from the backflow that will be replaced? The Serial Numbers read by the previous inspector.

6” at Special Housing Vault- Ames Model #4000SS Serial #M40037110603 6” at Food Service Vault- Ames Model #4000SS Serial #M40043H0616 8” at NW Water Meter Vault- Watts Model #774K Serial #101010304 8” at SW Water Meter Vault – Watts Model #774K Serial #1008690304 on this one the inspector wrote a note “unable to read” next to the model and serial #.

It is worth noting that the serial numbers listed above are “as read by the previous inspector” and FCI Big Spring does not guarantee their accuracy. It is the Contractors, responsibility to field verify existing conditions prior to ordering any materials. Clarification

The two 6” RPZ Backflow are in vaults working as Double check valve Backflow preventers. The statement of work will be amended to reflect that two Double Check Valve Backflow’s will be used in their place. Amend to Part 1, 1.0 Summary, paragraph A and Part 3, 3.1 Installation.
