per year. To satisfactorily perform this mandate in the state of Georgia, the NWS strategically located NWR transmitter stations at four GPB sites located at Atlanta, Chatsworth, Pelham, and Waycross.
GPB is the only source capable of providing the services required at the level of quality required because the services are unique or highly specialized. Only their employees can have unlimited 24 hour-a- day, 365 days-a-year access to the NWR transmitter stations at the GPB sites where the NWR equipment resides. The NWR equipment is located on towers and tower grounds with radio and television equipment owned by commercial companies. GPB is prohibited from allowing non-GPB personnel unlimited access to the site to maintain their equipment due to Homeland Security concerns. GPB’s license for broadcast television systems mandates that the sites remain secure.
Access to outside maintenance providers is limited to day light hours when they can be monitored by a GPB employee. Maintenance of the NWR transmitter systems requires 24-hour access to the tower and transmitter equipment in order to implement routine and unscheduled emergency maintenance to maintain uninterrupted service to the public.
