RFQ-24-036/PRSU-Duct Cleaning

Questions & Answers

- Question/Request: Please provide the CFM of each Air Handler Unit.

Answer: I have attached the Mechanical schedule M6.1, which gives the CFM for each air handler.

- Question/Request: I did not see mechanical drawings of each system; can you please provide them?

Answer: Appendix C lays out the Ductwork if that is what mechanical drawing means.

- Question/Request: Regarding the duct sealing requirement, can you clarify that only the seams in the duct must be sealed, that Aeroseal is not required, and that one of the three products attached (RS-100, Foster 32-18, or ProSeal) would be acceptable?

Answer: The SOW states that the seams of the supply duct are to be sealed, but sealing return ducts requires a complete lining of the inside of the duct. Without the complete lining of the entire inside of the return duct, the fiberglass insulation will not hold up and degrade. Sealing also means finding any potential leaks in the ducts that are not known about. To our knowledge, there are no large ones, but if some are found, they are to be sealed/close-up/repaired. Aerosol is not required but is not excluded as a solution. RS 100 can be used inside to coat the insulated ducts. The idea is to use a material that, after cleaning the ducts, will provide a smooth coating to the inside of the insulated duct that will allow better airflow and minimize particulates from sticking to the duct.

The ProSeal and Foster 32-18 can be used on the ducts that do not have insulation on the inside. Where there will be direct metal sealant at seams.

- Question/Request: Please confirm no hard surfaces (e.g., walls) are required to be cut into in order to facilitate cleaning

Answer: It is up to the contractor to ensure that the ducts are lined and sealed. The methods they use to do so are up to them. If the contractor thinks it is required to cut into walls to access the ducts, then it is on their onus to perform those actions, repair the walls, and ensure the facility is returned to existing conditions. An onsite visit can be scheduled to review all the ductwork and investigate if the walls need to be penetrated by the contractor. A majority of ductwork in the facility is above a suspended ceiling. Most ducting is located between floors 1 and 2 in the plenum space and is generally easily accessible around other mechanical items like plumbing and electrical conduit.

- Question/Request: Please confirm testing and/or air monitoring is not required.

Answer: It is up to the contractor to ensure that no harmful chemicals are released into the hospital. This could include making the ducts negative while being sealed and the air sent to the return of the building. We are open to suggestions on how to ensure the hospital is not exposed to volatile compounds from supposed sealants to be used.
