STATEMENT OF WORK
Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Irrigation System for Habitat Restoration Site
Lake Havasu National Wildlife Refuge Complex Parker, Arizona
May 2022
BACKGROUND
The Refuge stations of the Lake Havasu Refuge Complex include Bill Williams National NWR and Havasu NWR. This Statement of Work summarizes the justification for a service contract to install an irrigation system for native vegetation that will be planted in an area which was impacted by the Planet Ranch Fire in June of 2021.
DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT NEEDS
Notes:
Bill Williams River NWR manages 6,100-acres for native wildlife/plants and for public enjoyment. In June of 2021 the Planet Ranch Fire ignited and burned approximately 1,200 acres of the refuge’s forest and marsh habitat. This year the refuge staff will replant 100 acres of that habitat in native vegetation. To ensure optimal survival of the planting, an irrigation system is needed. Water is available to be pumped from sources adjacent to the planting area into a network of delivery lines providing water to each plant. A pump of sufficient capacity will be needed to deliver enough water to irrigate 2,500 plants across 25 acres with a lift of up to 6 feet. Filtration will be necessary to remove debris from the water to prevent clogging the emitters that will deliver water to each plant. No power is available at the site so a gas- or diesel-powered pump will be necessary. It is the desire of the refuge to rent the pump and main feeder lines, the refuge has agreed to purchase the more perishable tubing that will carry water from the main feeder lines to the plants across the acreage. The vendor will provide all materials, tools, and labor for installation and removal of the system and maintenance of the pump. The work will be performed between September and October 2022 before planting season, which begins in November.
Scope of Work:
1. Provide irrigation to 2,500 trees across 25 acres.
2. Pumps must be gasoline or diesel powered and be capable of delivering water across
25 acres with a six-foot lift.
3. Water filtration must be provided to the system for the proper function of emitters.
4. Work must be complete by November 1, 2022
5. Vendor will need to provide all equipment, tools, and labor for the work activity.
