The Government anticipates that only one award will be made as a result of this solicitation.

2.0 BACKGROUND

The National Cancer Institute, Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (NCI/DCEG), Laboratory of Translational Genomics works to develop new approaches to the study of the genetic basis of cancer and its outcomes. Specifically, this lab investigates the genetic basis of strong association signals identified in candidate gene association studies, loci identified by linkage analyses in high-risk families, or genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

In order to further research in this field, the lab needs to perform targeted resequencing of regions on the human genome that have been genetically linked to cancer predisposition. Long sequence reads are essential for haplotype analysis and detection of large structural variants.

Epigenetic modification of DNA is an important regulator of gene expression. Conventional methods for detecting DNA methylation requires bisulfite conversion and amplification;

however, the lab seeks a more rapid solution.
