2. Contract Title. Leadership Training
3. Background. One of the most challenging issues within organizations is the collective effect of people working from an Inward Mindset. Employees operating from an Inward Mindset focus on their own objectives and goals while failing to account for the impact they are having on the objectives of others and the organization. The most critical issue in leadership is to help leaders consistently operate with an outside approach, where they hold themselves accountable both for what they do and for the impact of what they do on others. The next most critical issue for leaders is to help them develop the ability to move their people and the organization toward an outward approach. Any leadership initiatives that fail to change people’s mindsets in this way will have severely limited impact. Efforts to change behavior alone by training people in behavioral patterns that are not supported by the underlying prevailing mindset of the organization will ultimately fail to deliver the desired results. Along with this shift in mindset, employees must learn the optimal behavioral patterns for building collaborative, results‐focused organizations.
The objective of this strategic development plan is to create a profound and lasting change that enables the people of Amarillo VA Healthcare System (AMAVAHCS) to accomplish three major objectives in perpetuity: First, create a healthy, collaborative, and respectful culture free of discrimination in any form; Second, operationalize high-reliability; Thirdly, provide both a way of working and frameworks that build and enhance resilience and adaptability – all in a way that is organically inspired through the actions of self-accountable people. Behavior-change training has limited potential to achieve such goals alone and a fundamental change in mindsets is needed before taking further steps in organizational training.
4. Scope. Contractor will provide training, coaches, materials, and online resources on mindset and cultural changes through multiple programs. Training will be provided to five (5) members of the Executive Leadership Team, fifteen (15) senior leaders, forty-five (45) service chiefs, and one hundred fifty (150) managers/supervisors. The programs are intended for those employees with formal leadership and supervisory responsibilities. The program includes both online and supporting training materials as well as live either face-to-face or virtual sessions with leadership and supervisors.
