A corresponding strip of hook fastener tape shall be a minimum double stitched to the outside right front body panel securing the fly in a closed position.
SUSPENDER ATTACHMENT
The garment shall have suspender attachment points.
SEAT
The rise of the rear pant center back seam, from the top back of the waistband to where it intersects the inside leg seams at the crotch, shall exceed the rise at the front of the pant by two and a half inches. The longer rear center back seam provides added fullness to the seat area for extreme mobility without restriction when stepping up or crouching and shall be graded to size.
This feature in combination with other design elements shall maintain alignment of the knee directly over the knee pads when kneeling and crawling.
EXPANSION POCKETS
An expansion pocket, measuring approximately two inches deep by eight inches wide by eight inches high, shall be double stitched to the front of each leg. It shall be located approximately two inches from the out seam above the knee, with most of the pocket on the front of the leg. The lower half of each expansion pocket shall be reinforced with a layer of KEVLAR® material on the inside, covering all four sides and the bottom of the pocket.
Two rust resistant metal drain eyelets shall be installed on the underside of each expansion pocket to facilitate drainage of water. An outer shell material divider shall be installed in the center of the left expansion pocket.
The pocket flaps shall be rectangular, constructed of two layers of outer shell material and shall measure three inches deeper than the pocket expansion (total of five inches with two inch pocket
Revised: April 1, 2026 expansion) and a half inch wider than the pocket on each side. The pocket flaps shall be closed by means of hook and loop fastener tape or magnetic closures. At least one of the hook or loop pieces should run almost the entire length of the pocket body or pocket flap. Corresponding hook or loop should also run full length or at least have three separate pieces, and those pieces shall be perpendicular to the full-length piece. Pocket flaps shall have a one inch wide piece of padding material sewn on the inside the entire length of the end of pocket flaps for ease of opening with gloved hands.
ERGONOMIC KNEE
The outer shell of the pant legs shall be constructed to meet the intent of horizontal expansion pleats in the knee area with corresponding darts in the liner for increased freedom of movement and maximum flexibility. Expansion pleats shall be installed along both the inseam and out seam of each leg in the knee area. The knee shall be installed proportionate to the pant inseam in such a manner that it falls in an anatomically correct knee location.
The liner system shall be constructed with four darts per leg in the front of the knee. The darts in the liner provide a natural bend at the knee. The darts in the liner work in conjunction with the expansion panels in the outer shell to increase freedom of movement when kneeling, crawling, and/or climbing stairs or ladders.
INTERNAL KNEE ENHANCEMENT
An additional layer of thermal liner and moisture barrier material shall be sewn to the knee area of the liner system for added protection and increased thermal insulation at contact points.
Additionally, padding for the knee area shall be accomplished with a minimum of one quarter inch closed cell foam, or approved material.
The knee thermal enhancement layer and padding shall be sandwiched between the thermal liner and moisture barrier layers of the liner system and shall be stitched to the thermal liner layer only.
KNEE REINFORCEMENTS
The knee area shall be reinforced with a layer of liquid impervious material. Reinforcing material shall be a polymer coated aramid material that is black in color. Outer shell material and leather are not permitted.
PANT CUFF REINFORCEMENTS
The cuff area of the pants shall be reinforced with a layer of liquid impervious material measuring two inches total. The reinforcements shall be folded in half, with one inch inside and one inch outside the sleeve end for greater strength and abrasion resistance. Reinforcing material shall be a polymer coated aramid material that is black in color. Outer shell material and leather are not permitted.
Revised: April 1, 2026
The cuff reinforcement shall be double stitched to the end of the leg. The liner shall attach to the outer shell at the cuff with two color coded snap tabs, one on each side of the leg.
REVERSE BOOT CUT
The outer shell pant leg cuffs shall be constructed such that the back of the leg is a minimum of one inch shorter than the front. The liner shall also have a reverse boot cut at the rear of the cuff and a concave cut at the front to keep the liner from hanging below the shell. This construction feature shall minimize the chance of premature wear of the cuffs.
RETROREFLECTIVE FLUORESCENT STRIPE
The pants shall have a stripe of retroreflective fluorescent trim, matching the coat. The bottom of the trim band shall be located approximately three inches above cuff.
SIZING
The pants shall be available in even size waist measurements of two inch increments and shall be available in a range of sizes from 24 to 56. The pant inseam measurement shall be available in two inch increments. Generalized sizing, such as small, medium, large, are not acceptable.
