4.5 Corner and Direction-Change Stability Guidance

The guardrail system will be installed along the rooftop perimeter and will include 9 locations where the direction of the run changes (corners). It is understood that non-penetrating deadweight guardrail systems require additional stabilization at corner/direction-change locations to prevent tipping under outward load, since the counterweight and base module configuration differs from a straight-run condition.

The Contractor shall submit manufacturer guidance specifically addressing this condition, including:

• Recommended corner unit configuration(s) suitable for the anticipated range of angle conditions

• Additional counterweight or base module requirements at each corner location

• Manufacturer's engineering rationale/certification that the proposed corner configuration achieves the required stability and load performance under Section 4.2

4.6 Transition to Existing Permanent Guardrail

At 12 locations, the new non-penetrating guardrail system will connect to an existing permanent

(fixed/anchored) guardrail already installed on the rooftop. The existing permanent guardrail's top rail height is estimated at 1,067 mm (42 inches), consistent with the new system's required top rail height; however, the Contractor shall design the transition detail to accommodate field verification of the actual existing height at the time of installation.

The Contractor shall provide:

• A transition/tie-in detail showing how the new system's top rail and mid rail align in height with the existing permanent guardrail at each of the 12 locations

• Manufacturer's connector or bracket solution (if available) for interfacing a non-penetrating deadweight system with a fixed/anchored guardrail

• An adjustable or field-adaptable transition component, in the event the existing permanent guardrail's actual height varies from the estimated 1,067 mm (42 inches)

• Confirmation that the transition detail does not compromise the independent stability of either system (i.e., the non-penetrating system's stability shall not rely on connection to the fixed guardrail, and vice versa)

• Installation guidance for Post personnel on fitting and securing the transition connection at each of the 12 points

4.7 Submittal Review and Approval

• All submittals must be approved by the COR before materials are manufactured or shipped.
