(v) Description of Requirement

The purpose of this contract is to chemically treat areas of the invasive species saltcedar (Tamarix ramosissima) aka “tamarisk”. The treatment area consists of two blocks, Block 1 approximately 326 acres and Block 2 approximately 746 acres of which 340 acres with be treated at this time, totaling approximately 666 treated acres all located in Morton County, Kansas. The units are located northwest of Elkhart, Kansas (see attached maps for exact location) within the Cimarron River corridor. The spraying should be conducted between May 1 and September 30. All work will be accomplished with equipment furnished by the contractor. Deep sandy soil is common within the treatment areas, so caution is warranted.

The Tamarisk (salt cedar) chemical spraying will be based on the price/acre. The cost per acre will include costs incurred by the contractor such as transportation of the equipment to be used, travel by the operator and necessary supplies (including basal oil surfactant). The chemical to be used will be supplied by the Forest Service.

Dominant vegetation consists of tamarisk with stems ranging from 0.5” – 8’’ diameter at 6” above the ground, and most stems smaller than 2.5” diameter at 6” above the ground. However, there are stems that are larger than 8” located within the treatment area. The treatment area is on nearly flat terrain with a slope of less than 10 percent. Many of the Tamarisk plants have been previously treated either by spraying, cutting, pulling, or burned. Small patches or individual cottonwood and willow are also present; only the tamarisk will be treated chemically. The boundary of the treatment units will be marked with orange flagging.

All costs (excluding chemical) to the contractor (such as transportation of equipment, travel by the operator, supplies etc.) are to be included in the cost per acre. Contractor will only be paid for wetted acres completed as measured by the Forest Service. Some of the treated areas will be measured and compared to the number of days taken to complete, to ensure the contractor is staying reasonably close to their anticipated rate of progress. The area to be treated is estimated to be 666 acres within the Cimarron River corridor.

The project will be accomplished by the contractor using spray equipment that can get around in the sandy soils so that all tamarisk stems in the designated areas are treated. The contractor shall chemically treat all tamarisk stems within the treatment areas. The treatment area is on nearly flat terrain with slopes less than 10 percent. Deep, sandy soils are common within the project area.

The treatment areas are shown on the attached map (s). Edges of the treatment area shall be either existing roads, powerlines, the Cimarron River, or “flagged” by orange ribbon (flagging).

Location and Description Spray a total of 666 acres located along the Cimarron River in Morton County, Kansas in:

Block 1: (326 acres) T34S R43W Sec 19/30 & Block 2: (340 acres) T34S R43W Sec 20/21 (see attached map(s)).
