Specific planting compartments and acreage by location are detailed in the PWS, along with quality control and quality assurance requirements. The contract includes prevailing wage requirements per the Service Contract Act, with wages determined by the Department of Labor. 5.1 Basic Services. The contractor shall provide services for 5.1.1 pine containerized full planting of 115 acres of National Forest lands within the Pleasant Hill Ranger District. Other materials and equipment provided by the contractor shall be removed from the project site within one week of the completion of work.

5.1. Task Heading. Full pine tree planting will be accomplished with 4” dibble/“plug cutter” cigar-shaped hollow tip which allows you to remove a 1” diameter solid core. Plant the seedling at approximately the same ground line as it was in the nursery. The root collar or cotyledon scar is an indicator of the original
12363N26Q4053 Ozark-St.Francis NF Pleasant Hill and Boston Mountain Tree Planting Page 8 of 25 ground line. No portion of the roots should be exposed, nor any needles or branches covered with soil. Do not break, bend, flatten or distort the plug in any manner to avoid damage to the root system. Firmly tamp the soil around the planted tree roots filling and firming the hole progressively from the bottom toward the top. Do not tamp with sticks or by "heeling in" alongside the seedlings after planting. Do not leave any large air pockets in the hole and do not leave debris in the hole after closure. Roots not in close contact with mineral soil will dry, resulting in tree mortality.
Cull any seedlings that the plug is dried out or light brown in color, needles exhibiting yellow or brown in color, or stems and roots are covered in mold or tree shoot form that has forks in the lower quarter and with no dominate shoot.
