RFP A22-0501 Addendum 1
Questions Submitted and Answers Provided
Question: What is the starting particle size of the Nd-Fe-B alloy before milling? I didn’t see this noted.
Answer: a. This varies depending on how the material was prepared. One source will be around 300 – 500 microns. Another will be 800 – 1200 microns.
b. We are pleased to discuss the starting particle size that works for a given equipment.
Question: Please confirm the target particle size is D50=3µ and D99=6µ? This is understood to be a single target requirement, not two separate targets.
Answer: a. This is meant to be single target.
Question: Sec 3c notes incorporated ability to classify powder is desirable. Please elaborate on what is intended by this request. i.e. Why would this make the process better?
Answer: a. The final properties of materials we are processing (of which Nd-Fe-B is only an example) depend on the distribution of the particle sizes. Too fine particles are hard to handle due to susceptibility to oxidation and too big particles grow abnormally during sintering.
Classification is intended to describe a process that collects particles with a narrow distribution.
