Request for Proposals

Robotic Welding Arm System

Requested by:

Lenawee Intermediate School District (LISD)

Adrian, Michigan

Issue Date: May 10, 2018

Due Date: May 25, 2018, @ 11:00 AM, EST

The Lenawee Intermediate School District (LISD) located in Adrian, Michigan seeks proposals from qualified vendors for the provision and installation of a robotic welding arm system at the LISD’s TECH

Center, 1372 N. Main Street, Adrian, Michigan.

The robotic welding arm system will be installed in the LISD TECH Center Welding Technology career and technical education program laboratory. The robotic welding arm system will be used by high school and adult students.

Robotic Welding Arm System Specifications

The LISD seeks a robotic welding arm system is specifically designed for arc welding applications. The system must provide for a wide range of motions and capabilities and allows for the support of various welding torch tools. The arc welding system must include a computerized control system which allows the system user to program multiple tasks. The selected vendor will be responsible for delivering and installing the robotic welding arm system at the LISD TECH Center, 1372 N. Main Street, Adrian, Michigan.

The LISD seeks a robotic welding arm system that maintains equivalent functionality and capabilities to the Fanuc Robot Arch Mate 100ic series. The Fanuc Robot Arch Mate 100ic series robot includes the following:

100ic Robot Arm

6-axis arm

12 kg payload

56” reach

Fanuc R-30iB Robot Controller

Arctool software

440-575VAC (+/- 10%), 50/60Hz, 3 Phase, 30A Service

ANSI/RIA Compliant Mechanical Unit/Controller

Arclift 25 ft. Cable Kit

STT® process sense lead

Heavy duty control cable

Gas line assembly

Cable assembly via Ethernet

Power Wave® R450

Built-in Feeder Control

Wire Feeder

.035” drive roll kit w/ 4 roll kit

AutoDrive® 4R220 Wire Feeder

AutoDrive® 4R220 wire feeder unit

Automatic wire feeder for flux-cored and metal-core wires

Solid wire size range: .023” – 1/16” (.6-1.6 mm)

Cored wire size range: .035” – 5/64” (.09-2.0 mm)

Speed range: 30-1200 in/min (.8-30.5 m/min)

Magnum PRO® Torch, MIG, Air Cooled

350 or 500A Air Cooled Torch with consumables and cable for through-arm mechanical units

Single Tool Center Point (TCP) - Changing between 350A and 550A expendables does not alter the robot TCP.

Robust Cable System - Cables exceed industry standards by a factor of two in durability testing.

Simplified Expendable Parts Selection - 350A and 550A rated consumables are interchangeable across all gun models.

HexConnect™ Gun Bushing - Ensures better electrical conductivity through full face contact as opposed to rotating connections that have single line contact.

Extended Reach - Mounting bracket is designed to optimize clearance for tough to reach welding applications.

Robot Hardware

Model A IO AID16D – 24VDC x 16 Digital Input, Isolated True High, 20mS, PNP

Model A IO AOR16G – 250VAC/30VDC x 16 Digital Relay Output, 2.0A

Robot Software

STO 1 group, 1 motor

Basic Software Bundle

Constant Path - this software enables other software to operate on the robot controller, such as (but not including) Touch Sensing, Through-Arc

Seam Tracking, the use of positioning equipment, etc.

Lincoln Weld Equipment Library - this allows selection of Lincoln

Electric weld gear when setting up communication between the welding power supply and the robot controller

Lincoln America Package software - facilitates the use of Lincoln

Checkpoint production monitoring data (collected by the welding power supply)

TorchGuard software includes:

• Collision Guard software that enables the robot controller to monitor motor feedback (to detect torch collisions),

• Payload ID software that helps define the mass of the torch on the end of the arm, allowing optimization of robot acceleration

• Torchmate software that provides tool center point re-calibration by using a touch sensing routine on a sensing block to update the robot's understanding of the welding wire tip location

Panel Wizard software allows the customer to make custom teach pendant screens

Integrated PMC (Programmable Machine Control) software, which is used for system controls functions

Jog Retract and Return software - In the event of a fault (such as running out of wire during a weld), the operator can manually jog the robot away from the location that the fault occurred and manually tend to the issue.

Once resolved, the 'Return' function enables the arm to trace the manually jogged path in reverse, safely bringing the robot back to the location where the error took place. The program can be resumed at that time from the operator palmstation.

Multi-Group Motion

A motion group defines a set of motors and axes that are combined to accomplish a motion task. FANUC Robotics robots are an example of a motion group, typically Group Additional motion groups are defined to control axes on a piece of equipment other than the robot. The maximum number of groups that can be supported by a controller is eight. Up to four positioner devices can be added as motion groups to the system.

System

76" diameter servo controlled turntable positioner, programmed for 180° oscillating actuation.

Palletized work cell enclosure, making the entire system forklift portable.

L-shaped light curtain assembly across the operator load/unload zone to monitor against operator presence during turntable actuation.

Dual sliding access doors (left and right) for maintenance and robot programming. Each door includes a tinted (non uv-protected) Lexan panels for watching robot motion. Watching the welding arc requires typical welding safety gear (not included).

Palmstation controls built into the system frame.

Alternate Products

Any time a particular manufacturer’s name or brand is specified, it shall mean any product of equal quality. When providing bids for alternate products, the respondent must clearly indicate the product it is proposing, and shall supply sufficient data to enable an intelligent comparison to be made with the particular brand or manufacturer specified. Additionally, respondents must provide catalog cuts, specification sheets, and/or other descriptive data for alternate products specified.

Optional Products

Respondents should detail any optional equipment and/or materials that LISD may wish to consider purchasing in addition to the base equipment/goods and services described above. Optional products should be priced separately from the base items.

Warranty

Manufacturer warranties must be transferrable to the LISD and must be transferred to the LISD at the time of delivery and installation of the equipment. Respondents must include detailed information about any and all manufacturer warranties which are included with a purchase including clear information about any warranty limitations. All items must be installed pursuant to the manufacturer’s guidelines in a manner that preserves any and all warranties.

Delivery

All items must be delivered F.O.B. LISD TECH Center Welding Laboratory, 1372 N. Main St., Adrian, Michigan, meaning that risk of loss remains with the vendor until such time as the goods have been delivered, installed, and accepted by the LISD. Destination costs, if any, must be included in the bid.

Installation

Respondents will be responsible for the delivery, placement, connection to required utilities, and configuration (collectively, “installation”) of the robotic arm system and any chosen optional items.

Training

Respondents must provide for training sufficient to educate the appropriate LISD personnel and others who may need to understand the use of the equipment on the functionality and use of the equipment.

Training session(s) must accommodate up to three participants, with participants being selected by the

LISD.

General Conditions
