2.1 Design Requirements

The current cabling infrastructure this project is aiming to replace is about 30 years old with minimal or no documentation available. The Museum will provide floor plans to Offerors identifying the locations of offices, cubicles, conference/meeting rooms and communication closets.

The following set of design-related requirements shall be strictly adhered to when developing the design:

a) The Museum’s current cabling plant is made up mostly of category 3 and category 5 cabling to support its local area networks. The Museum’s telephone communication currently uses a traditional PBX-based system but will be transitioned to a VOIP or cloud-based system in the near future. The current intent is that the telephone network will remain separate from the data network. The long-haul communication between the two buildings is facilitated using multimode fiber optic cables. The selected contractor shall design a cabling infrastructure for all of these

USHMM RFP 95476722R0063 Page 6 of 17 Ross/Museum Cabling Design to Build operations using the latest industry standard cables, conduits, innerducts, racks, patch panels and other accessories. The number of cable runs for different areas will have varying quantity requirements. The contractor shall accommodate such capacity requirements in their design.

b) Contractors shall factor in all existing communication closets, conduits and cable pathways in their design without adding any requirements for new closets and conduits unless it becomes absolutely warranted. In such cases, the contractor shall document the requirements along with justification and other details for the Museum’s review and approval.

c) The contractor’s design shall accommodate an appropriate number of patch panels and other accessories for each communication closet for all incoming cables to support data and voice connections. Patch panels, racks and other components in communication closets shall be designed to meet current requirements and shall accommodate a 10% additional space for future growth. Similarly, all conduits, pull boxes and horizontal raceways (if used) must be designed with at least 10% free space for additional cable runs in the future.

d) As a part of the design efforts, all cable termination points, both in communication closets and at the endpoint locations, shall follow a numbering/labeling scheme that is mutually agreed between the Museum and the contractor. The engineering diagrams developed during the design phase shall clearly identify all the cable termination points with the aforementioned labeling scheme.
