1.4. Overview

Aztec Shops Ltd., incorporated in 1932, is a non-profit corporation which provides commercial services to San Diego State University (SDSU). Aztec Shops is an auxiliary organization of SDSU and operates as an autonomous entity even though it is located on the campus of SDSU. Aztec Shops is dedicated to providing quality commercial services in the areas of food sales, bookstore operations, catering, convenience store operations, vending, concessions, and much more. As a member of the California State University system, Aztec Shops must follow any current and future Nutritional Standards for snacks and food.

Aztec Shops has a Pouring Rights Agreement with Pepsi, which covers all beverage vending on campus. This RFP will not cover or infringe on any Pepsi Pouring Rights.

All vending machines are located on San Diego State University owned and/or operated property and subject to University policies, procedures and requirements. Vending locations have been very stable over the years, but could change based on University needs and changes.

During the performance of the vending agreement, the Contractor is committed to providing equal employment opportunity (EEO) decisions solely upon an individual's qualifications relating to the requirements of the position for which the individual is being considered, in regards to recruiting, hiring, training, transferring and promoting the best qualified persons for all jobs without regard to ancestry, age, color, disability, genetic information, gender, gender identity, gender expression, hair style or texture associated with race, marital status, medical condition (genetic characteristics (GINA), cancer or a record or history of cancer), national origin, race, religion (religious dress/grooming practices), sex (includes pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and/or related medical conditions, reproductive choices), sexual orientation, military or veteran status, victimization of domestic violence (includes sexual assault, and/or stalking),or any other categories protected by law. The Contractor ensures that this applies to all personnel actions such as compensation, benefits, transfers, layoffs, company-sponsored training, promotions, terminations and disciplinary actions.

Aztec Shops seeks proposals from qualified and competent contractors to provide snack vending machine services for various locations at the SDSU campus. The regular academic calendar runs approximately from the third week in August through the middle of May. Summer session classes are offered Monday to Friday and run from the end of May through approximately the second week of August. Vending is provided for the summer sessions. There are multiple residence halls on the campus that have vending machines as well.

Students, Faculty, staff and visitors use the vending services at our campus with convenient locations to obtain a variety of snacks of their choice. It is important as a potential Contractor to keep the students’ needs and concerns in mind when providing a product. A consistent and convenient product is what is most important to the average student. All machines should be stocked with similar products and maintain steady deliveries to ensure that no student goes without. It is also important to note that starting with this contract, Aztec Shops would like to provide healthier options for the users as well as a product that can satisfy the demand for sweets. Student experience is what is most important and Aztec Shops would like to provide students with foods that will nourish their bodies so that they can be in top shape to perform in class.

Aztec Shops expects Proposers to present a complete program for the management of its vending service and to include verifiable examples of successful programs. In addition to process, proposals should include a quality assurance program and promotional programs if applicable, all in sufficient detail to allow Aztec Shops to evaluate the intended operation from the standpoint of quality, costs and service.

This Request for Proposals does not commit Aztec Shops to pay for any direct and/or indirect costs incurred in the preparation and presentation of a response. All proposers shall pay their own costs incurred in preparing for, traveling to and attending the in-person meeting.

Aztec Shops reserves the right to reject any and all RFP submittals, to amend the RFP and the RFP process and to discontinue or re-open the process at any time. 1.6. Contract Award
