Statutory authority: 41 U.S.C. 1901 Intended Source: Illumina, Inc Justification: The Illumina NS2000 DNA sequencer is an expensive and mission-critical instrument, used daily by research groups in NIH/NICHD to obtain DNA sequences and is essential for nearly all of their research. It is a complex machine requiring regular maintenance. There have been multiple repair visits and remote service calls every year, so a dedicated service agreement is in the Government’s best interest to keep the equipment functioning. Illumina is the original equipment manufacturer of the NICHD’s current NextSeq 2000 DNA sequencing system. They are the only vendor capable of providing the needed services at the level of performance required, certified technicians, genuine replacement parts, and updates for software and hardware for their proprietary equipment.
