About this file

This document is a Request for Information (RFI) regarding the Biocontainment, Isolation, and Quarantine (BIQ) Shipboard Isolation System (SIS) for the U.S. Navy. The RFI seeks detailed information about commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions for a hospital bed isolation system designed to temporarily enclose and isolate an infectious patient on a Navy ship, preventing the spread of biological threats.

The RFI includes specific technical questions about the system's design and functionality, such as patient care methods and power requirements. Responses are to be submitted via email to Brian Liska at brian.liska@usmc.mil by 10 SEP 2025 at 5:00 p.m. EST. The project is part of the Chemical and Biological Defense Program's Enhanced Biodefense and Pandemic Preparedness initiative, managed by the Joint Project Manager for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Protection (JPM CBRN Protection), with the Department of the Army Materiel Command Army Contracting Command Aberdeen Proving Ground as the supporting agency.

SIS RFI Questions 8 SEP 2025 Received 4 SEP 2025

1. Is the SIS to be designed to allow a medical provider to be able to enter the patient isolation area wearing appropriate PPE to care for the patient? Or, is this envisioned to be a much smaller unit with the only form of patient care to be via the glove ports?

The SIS will allow caregivers to bring a patient inside the enclosure and place the patient on the bed. Once the patient is inside the SIS, all patient care will be via the glove ports.

2. What is the desired operational runtime for the unit when on battery power?

The SIS is not expected to be battery powered.
