PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT

HITC CHAIRS

1. INTRODUCTION. The mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information & Technology (OIT), IT Operations and Services at Hines Information Technology Center (HITC) is to provide benefits and services to veterans of the United States. In meeting these goals, HITC strives to provide high quality, effective, and efficient information technology (IT) services to those responsible for providing care to veterans throughout United States, in an effective, timely, and compassionate manner. VA depends on information management/information technology (IM/IT) systems to further meet mission goals. The HITC processes data that is considered a lifeline to veterans and constant availability of that data is crucial. The HITC facilities department is responsible for ensuring the facility provides a safe and secure workplace for its employees, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week (24/7).

HITC requires office chairs to support the Presidential Executive Order for employees to “Return to Office.” Investing in high-quality office chairs for employees returning to the workplace represents a strategic investment that directly impacts productivity, health, and employee satisfaction. As staff transition back to on-site work, proper seating is essential to prevent musculoskeletal disorders, reduce absenteeism, and minimize healthcare costs associated with workplace injuries. Research shows that proper office chairs significantly decrease postural stress on the spine, neck and shoulders while promoting proper alignment, resulting in enhanced focus, productivity, and energy throughout the workday. The initial procurement costs are substantially offset by cumulative savings from reduced workplace injuries, increased productivity, and improved employee retention rates. Additionally, providing proper seating demonstrates organizational commitment to employee well-being, which strengthens company culture and helps establish the workplace as an employer of choice during this critical transition period.
