Mowing the fringes and small tree removal at and within sedimentation basins shall be done twice per year as designated in blue cross hatching.
Contractor shall provide a written report of Elevation of Sedimentation Ponds to the Fort Knox technical representative the 2nd workday of each quarter.

The contractor shall repair leachate outbreak areas as they occur on all areas of landfill including closed areas. For leachate outbreaks that occur in closed landfill, contractor shall excavate cover material at the outbreak to a depth where the true location of the leachate exit can be determined. By using appropriate cover material, the excavated area shall be backfilled and compacted to landfill standards.

Sediment Basins, Including Inlet and Outlet Structures, Turbidity Curtains, and Vegetation: Inspect the inlet and outlet structures to ensure that they are operating and effectively carrying flow. The sediment filters at the outlet pipes shall be inspected for clogging, tears, rips, or UV degradation. The turbidity curtain system shall be checked for proper operation. Inspect the turbidity curtains for any degradation, rips, tears, broken connections, sediment or debris accumulation, and UV degradation. Ensure that the curtain can be freely raised and lowered on the guideposts. Any sediment or debris accumulation on the curtains should be removed. If necessary, damaged sections of the turbidity curtain should be replaced.
Replacement curtains may be obtained from the original supplier, Customer Banner & Cover, USA at 1- 800-926-7643. The step pools at the basin for Outfall 13 shall be inspected for sediment accumulation.
The step pools should be checked to ensure that the fabric is properly secured with stone and that the stones are maintaining the original grade and shape. The vegetation in the areas around the basins shall be inspected for any signs of erosion or bare spots larger than 18 inches in diameter. The vegetation shall be repaired as required to control sedimentation and erosion. Fort Knox CD Landfill contains 7 sediment basins. The basins identification and size are as follows:
SEDIMENT BASIN AREAS
OUTFALL NO. *
BASIN AREA (ACRES)

8 0.7 9 0.2
10 0.6 11 0.7 12 2.4 13 2.6

Concrete Drainage Ditch, Including Rock Check Dams: Inspect the landfill perimeter concrete paved channel for sediment accumulation and severely cracked or broken sections. Any sediment accumulation greater than one inch shall be removed by the landfill operator with hand shovels and placed in the landfill. Inspect the rock check dams to ensure that the stone and filter fabric are maintaining the original grade and position.
Silt Fence: Inspect the reinforced silt fence to ensure that it is in proper working condition. Fence that is ripped, fallen, or otherwise degraded beyond effectively controlling sediment shall be replaced. Sediment accumulation greater than 1/2 the full height of the fence shall be removed and placed in the landfill.
Landfill: Inspect the landfill slopes for proper vegetative cover. Sparsely vegetated areas and signs of erosion, such as gullies or rills, shall be repaired.
Sediment Basin Routine Maintenance Procedures: Contractor shall perform routine maintenance as follows:

Place the removed sediment in the landfill. If necessary, remove the filter fabric and clean any accumulated sediment. Replace the filter fabric using the original piece or a replacement piece of fabric.
Replace any fabric with tears or UV degradation. Replacement fabric shall be Amoco 2000 woven geotextile fabric or equivalent. Perform as needed based on quarterly inspection requirements.
Step Pools: If sediment accumulation is greater than 3 inches deep, remove, clean, and replace the filter fabric. Damaged or degraded fabric shall be replaced with a fresh piece. Secure the fabric in place with the existing stones. If necessary, the stone lining in the step pool shall be reshaped. Replacement fabric shall be Amoco 2000 woven geotextile fabric or equivalent. Perform as needed based on quarterly inspection requirements.
Mowing (Mow Zones): To provide a vegetated filter zone around the basins and to reduce erosion by promoting natural vegetation, contractor shall abide by the mow zone map provided at a later date and time. The mow zone map shall be posted at contractor's landfill trailer and shall be provided to mowing personnel.
