About this file

This is a Request for Information (RFI) and Sources Sought notice issued by Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD) for precision metal motor components used in small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). The RFI is classified as Controlled Unclassified Information/Controlled Technical Information (CUI//CTI) and is intended solely for market research and planning purposes; it does not constitute a binding commitment to issue a Request for Proposal or award a contract.

The requirement encompasses the fabrication, inspection, finishing, and delivery of seven unique component designs across two Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motor assembly series: the 3115 Motor Series and the 2807 Motor Series. Components include motor rotor caps, motor bases, motor shafts, and motor magnet rings manufactured from 6061-T6 and 7075-T6511 aluminum alloys, 17-4 PH stainless steel, and 1020 mild steel DOM tubing. All components require precision manufacturing using multi-axis CNC milling and turning, specialized grinding, threading, knurling, and adherence to strict military specifications including MIL-A-8625 Class II Black Anodize, passivation, copper electroplating, and MIL-F-495 chemical blacking. Key manufacturing challenges include maintaining sub-thousandths-of-an-inch dimensional tolerances, executing exotic multi-stage surface finishes, and machining complex micro-features such as fine-pitch knurls and deep micro-holes in tough alloys.

Interested firms must submit a Capability Statement (maximum 10 pages) by September 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM EST addressing corporate information, CAGE code and UEI, business size status under NAICS 332710, machining equipment capabilities, knurling expertise, in-house versus subcontracted processes, Model-Based Definition (MBD) capability, ISO 9001:2015 or AS9100D certification, inspection and metrology capabilities, and estimated lead times for prototype batches and maximum monthly production capacity. Responses must be submitted electronically in PDF or Microsoft Word format to three designated government points of contact at Tobyhanna Army Depot.
