About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) and Sources Sought document issued by the United States Marine Corps, Marine Forces Reserve (MARFORRES) Communication Strategy and Operations section for specialized photography, camera optics, archival ink supplies, and studio infrastructure. The RFI is for market research and planning purposes only, with responses due by 1200 CST on September 3, 2026. The requiring activity is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the primary NAICS code is 334310 (Audio and Video Equipment Manufacturing).
The critical platform constraint mandates that all equipment must integrate natively and electronically with standard-issue USMC Canon EOS R-series full-frame mirrorless camera bodies without transmission lag, focal errors, or mechanical mismatches. All lenses must natively synchronize with Canon's In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) and Dual Pixel CMOS AF eye/subject tracking systems. Printing stations and replacement inks must natively parse Canon raw color-profiles to prevent color-calibration shifts in official Marine Corps materials and avoid damage to thermal printheads. The 13 line items required include: a rotary trimmer, commercial camera stand, Canon Chroma Optimizer ink tanks (5 bundles), mobile TV floor stand, 55-inch Samsung OLED TV, Canon lens dust caps (8 units), Kolari Pro ND drop-in filters (4 units), and four Canon RF-mount lenses including a 100-500mm telephoto, 24-105mm zoom, 70-200mm telephoto, and 50mm prime lens. Vendors must submit capability statements demonstrating Authorized Reseller status, socioeconomic classification, TAA and NDAA compliance, supply chain lead times for unified delivery to New Orleans, and comprehensive engineering documentation for any equivalent products. Responses should be submitted via email to jordyn.edwards@usmc.mil with the RFI Notice Number RFI-COMMSTRAT-CANON-OPTICS-2026 in the subject line.

Section 1: Background & Canon Platform Constraint The Marine Forces Reserve Communication Strategy and Operations (COMMSTRAT) section is conducting market research to identify qualified commercial sources capable of providing specialized photography, camera optics, archival ink supplies, and supportive studio infrastructure.
CRITICAL PLATFORM CONSTRAINT (STANDARDIZATION REQUIREMENT):
The Canon camera platform is the standard issued equipment across the United States Marine Corps. All lenses, lens mount adapters, dust caps, and filters must integrate natively and electronically with standard-issue Marine Corps Canon full-frame mirrorless camera bodies (EOS R-series) without causing transmission lag, focal errors, or mechanical mismatches. Lenses must natively sync with Canon's In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) and Dual Pixel CMOS AF eye/subject tracking systems. Furthermore, printing stations and replacement inks must natively map to and parse standard Canon raw color-profiles to prevent color-calibration shifts in official Marine Corps recruitment and public affairs materials, and to prevent physical clog-damage to high-speed thermal printheads.

Section 3: Simplified Salient Characteristics Group A: Camera Optics & Interoperable Accessories (CLINs 0007 - 0013)
• Native Mount Connectivity: Must natively mount to, and communicate electronically with, standard-issue USMC Canon RF-mount camera bodies without electronic translation adapters.
• Auto-stabilization Alignment: Lenses must synchronize with standard Canon In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) to secure up to 5-8 stops of handshake correction in field environments.
• Autofocus Core Compatibility: Internal focusing motors (Nano USM) must interact natively with Canon Dual Pixel CMOS AF algorithms to ensure immediate eye and fast-object tracking.
• Legacy System Retrofitting (CLIN 0011): Must convert standard USMC legacy EF-mount lenses to mirrorless RF-mounts while retaining full autofocus, control ring functionality, and EXIF metadata transfer. Must include an integrated slot with an adjustable Circular Polarizing (CPL) filter.
• Optical Ranges: Required focal profiles include super-telephoto zoom (100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM), constant standard zoom with power zoom gear rails (24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z), constant telephoto zoom (70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM), and an ultra-fast prime lens (50mm f/1.2L USM).
