About this file

This document is a Performance Demonstrated Data sheet for the MQM-186 A/B Group 2 Aerial Target system, dated 27 January 2021. The document presents threshold requirements, objective requirements, and demonstrated performance data for two engine configurations: SAITO FG-30 and DA-35.

The MQM-186 A/B is a fiberglass airframe aerial target with wood bulkheads measuring 3,075–3,085 millimeters in wingspan and 1,830–1,840 millimeters in length. The system features metalized wood and composites wings, catapult launch capability, and belly-land recovery methods. Both engine variants employ CloudCap Piccolo SL ground control systems and flight termination systems triggered by loss of ground control and GPS signals. Performance specifications include dash speeds of 33 m/s (67 knots) for SAITO FG-30 and 39 m/s (76 knots) for DA-35, cruise speeds of 30 m/s (58 knots) for both variants, endurance of 4.5 hours and 5.0 hours respectively (limited by battery), payload capacity of 14 pounds and 18 pounds respectively, maximum altitudes of 3,600 meters (16,400 feet), cruise altitudes of 3,000 meters (9,842 feet), low altitude capability of 500 meters above ground level, and operational range of 40 kilometers (24 miles) line-of-sight without requiring communications repeaters or satellite radio modifications.
