About this file
The document is a Request for Bid (RFB) issued by the Audubon Commission for animal seafood procurement for the Audubon Nature Institute, covering facilities including the Audubon Aquarium, Freeport-McMoRan Audubon Species Survival Center, and Audubon Zoo. The RFB is divided into two bid groups with separate submission dates: Group 1 on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. and Group 2 on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. The seafood procurement includes various marine species such as silversides, sardines, herring, trout, anchovies, smelt, and other marine life, with estimated annual quantities ranging from 200 to 37,000 pounds across different facilities. Specifications include detailed requirements for packaging, sizing, freezing methods, and quality standards, with bidders required to provide individual line-item pricing and adhere to specific packaging and quality guidelines.
The RFB emphasizes sustainability and local sourcing, with a preference for Louisiana-produced seafood and requirements for third-party sustainability certifications. Vendors must provide proof of sustainable sourcing, such as Seafood Watch ratings or certification from recognized schemes like Marine Stewardship Council. Pricing is to remain fixed for 12 months, with all seafood required to be of human-consumption quality and pass USDC Seafood Inspection with a Grade A rating. Delivery is specified as two weeks from order placement, with all seafood to be raw, recently caught, and within twelve months of catch/freeze date. The Audubon Commission reserves the right to award to multiple suppliers and will conduct an annual sustainability audit of seafood sourcing to ensure compliance with their established guidelines.

Vendors are required to provide proof of sustainable sourcing to Audubon for all seafood products with the bid that demonstrate what you use to determine sustainability of product, like Seafood Watch rating, evidence of a certification or chain of custody, or link to a fishery improvement project.”
Audubon Nature Institute is committed to supporting local, domestic, sustainable seafood through our Gulf United for Lasting Fisheries (G.U.L.F.) initiative. The following guidelines have been produced to ensure Audubon follows the best practices when it comes to the sourcing of seafood for our various facilities and needs.
• Applies to the sourcing of seafood products for human and animal consumption
• Sourcing priority is local and domestic seafood. If seafood can be found locally, it cannot be substituted with a foreign product. Examples include:
o Shrimp o Crawfish o Tuna o Blue Crab o Catfish o Snapper o Oysters o Drum
• If unable to source locally, product must be sourced from a fishery or farm that meets one of the following criteria:
o Has received recognition from a third-party certification scheme (Ex: Marine Stewardship Council, Responsible Fisheries Management scheme, Best Aquaculture Practices) o Is certified by a scheme that has cleared Global Sustainable Seafood Alliance (GSSI) benchmarking o It is an active fishery improvement project, provides traceability information, or has been vetted by G.U.L.F.
• Audubon G.U.L.F. will perform an annual sustainability audit of all of Audubon’s seafood sourcing to ensure compliance with these guidelines http://www.ourgssi.org/benchmarking/recognized-schemes/ https://fisheryprogress.org/directory
