Requirements Document

1.0 Background

The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) Underwater Transduction Material Resource (UTMR) designs, builds, and tests prototype transduction devices as proof of concepts for the Navy. This facility needs the single crystal ceramic for use as the active element in test prototypes to demonstrate the effectiveness of a parametric acoustic array. The prototype was designed from the material up and without this single crystal material, we cannot complete the required work.

2.0 Requirement

The vendor must provide 300 PIN-PMN-PT <001> bars

These ceramic bars are customer designed to meet the single crystal array project at NUWCDIVNPT.

2.1 Technical Requirements

-Width W = 0.355” -Height H = 0.355” -Thickness t (between electrodes) = 0.100” -Dimensional tolerance = 0.002” -Parallelism = 0.002” -Flatness = 0.005” -Capacitance (pF) = 1350 ±6.0% -Relative permittivity K33T = 4750 ±6.0% -Piezoelectric constant d33 = 1285 pm/V ±8.0% -Dielectric loss factor tan ≤ 0.005 -Sputtered Cr/Au electrodes, with Cr thickness of 500 Angstroms and Au thickness of 2000 Angstrom.

-Positive electrode shall be clearly indicated by red dot.

-Vendor, at a minimum, shall report capacitance, tan del, d33, and dimensions for each plate.
