JOHN DEERE 724K FORKS
Requirements Document For 704th Test Group/846TS
29 May 2024
1.0 PURPOSE
The 704th Test Group (704 TG) mission is to be the premier provider of unique test and evaluation capabilities relevant to tomorrow’s warfighter through world-class people improving technical excellence, cost-effectiveness, and agility. The 846th Test Squadron (846 TS) is one of the units assigned to the 704 TG. The 846 TS Holloman High Speed Test Track (HHSTT) requires mission essential upgrades to its John Deere 724K front end loader. The added capability of the Fork Attachment is required to suffice current equipment shortfalls.
This John Deere 724K is required for target placement and is currently needed for mission support of multiple National Defense weapon development programs to include Hypersonic projects: Deep Core, Burning Sky, and Long Range Stand Off (LRSO) Cruise Missile Test program. The Deep Core and Burning Sky projects fall within Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) testing campaign at the HHSTT projected for the next 10-15 years.
Current practice for target placement requires the use of two (2) Mobile Cranes for critical lifts. The 846 TS currently has a shortfall on heavy equipment with only one (1) 50t Mobile Crane in service and of limited weight capacity for targets. Unavailability of this heavy equipment will delay the completion of these programs rocket sled test target environments and placement of HHSTT infrastructure components and therefore delay mission test dates. This added capability will eliminate the requirement for using two (2) Mobile Cranes and reduce lifts to non-critical.
