About this file
This is a Statement of Work for the USDA Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory detailing the repair and reinstallation of a DeDietrich agitator for an SA1500 glass-lined reactor. The contractor shall receive a damaged glass-lined agitator, inspect it for repairability, and if confirmed, remove all glass, repair the underlying steel structure, reglass according to original 2012 specifications, confirm reglassing integrity, ship to the Forest Products Laboratory, send a service engineer for installation with a new cartridge seal, and confirm final glass integrity. The work takes place in Building 29 of the Forest Products Laboratory. The reactor operates in a concentrated sulfuric acid environment (64% at 45°C) used to quench cellulose nanocrystal reactions, followed by bleaching with chlorine dioxide and neutralization with concentrated sodium hydroxide.
The contractor shall provide a service report detailing installation and glass integrity confirmation as the primary deliverable. The government will assist with installation and ensure the equipment's working order. The contractor is responsible for all travel arrangements and determining necessary staffing levels. Service technicians will be escorted while on-site due to security requirements. The contractor retains no rights to data generated except for the service report containing installation notes. Section 508 electronic and information technology standards are not applicable to this work.

General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
The contractor shall repair, reglass and install an agitator for a 1500-gallon glass-lined reactor.
2.0 Background
The Forest Products Laboratory has an ongoing need to produce and supply cellulose nanomaterials for research and development for government, university and corporate researchers in the United States and worldwide. Their production requires operating within a concentrated acid environment, as well as, working with strong oxidants. This glass-lined reactor is used to quench a cellulose nanocrystal reaction performed at 64% sulfuric acid at a temperature of 45C. The crude material is bleached with chlorine dioxide and then neutralized with concentrated sodium hydroxide solution.
