About this file

This document is an archaeological site survey spreadsheet detailing numerous mining sites and cultural resource survey records across Pima and Santa Cruz counties in Arizona. The file contains detailed documentation of over 20 historical mining sites, including the Deer Mine, Ajax Mine, Long Shot Mine, St. Christopher Mine, Noon Mine, and Ruby Mine, with descriptions of their physical features, historical ownership, and archaeological characteristics. The sites are primarily located in southwestern Arizona and represent various stages of mining activity from the early 20th century.

The document directly relates to a current U.S. Forest Service solicitation (No. 127EAV26Q0008) for the Arivaca Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) Remediation Project, which seeks a cultural resource survey to address physical safety hazards at 60 abandoned mine features. The survey sites documented in this spreadsheet provide comprehensive archaeological and historical context for the upcoming cultural resource assessment, covering mining operations, surface and underground mining features, and historical land use in the region. The survey records include details such as site dimensions, core and dispersed areas, recording dates, and specific mining-related infrastructure like shafts, adits, machinery mounts, and structural remains.
