Responses to Questions 6/19/15
4. Can you please clarify Attachment 3 and the quantity of (6) 8 core packs of MarkLogic Essential Enterprise. Are these all Production Licenses and is there a need for Test Licenses? We typically recommend the same quantity of Test clusters as Production clusters.
Answer: DTIC has three environments: Production, Test (also called Staging), and Development. The 48 cores is to cover clusters on both Test and Production. Estimates based on the quantity of DTIC data indicated that DTIC would need 12 cores for NIPR production, 12 cores for SIPR production, 12 cores for NIPR test, and 12 cores for SIPR test.
This adds up to a total of 24 cores for NIPR and 24 for SIPR, covering production and test, with a grand total of 48 cores and therefore 6 packs of 8. If the vendor recommends more or fewer cores, they should note this in the response along with the number of cores their quote is for.
DTIC expects to use the Developer license for its Development environment. DTIC may need to store more than 1 TB on development, but significantly less than for Test or Production. DTIC is expecting to take advantage of MarkLogic's willingness to expand the developer license size based on answers to the FAQ on MarkLogic's Developer license website: ' Q. Can I store more than 1TB of data? A. Yes. If you need additional capacity, please contact MarkLogic.'
5. Is the quantity requirement only for IOC (Initial Operational Capability) or does this include FOC (Fully Operational Capability) to manage 2 Year Log files?
Answer: Quantity requirement is for FOC to manage 2 year log files. Note that log files were estimated at 3000000/yr, but each are estimated at only 1 kb in size, equaling only 3 GB/yr. Also note log files on Test would be a fraction of Production.
