Title: Radioassay & Nondestructive Testing (RANT) Facility Upgrade

Document Type: Presolicitation.

This build to plan construction project includes the work required to upgrade the Radioassay and Nondestructive Testing (RANT) facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory (Los Alamos, NM) to be compliant with current (2015) seismic code.

The existing building is a precast concrete structure with a cast-in place concrete foundation, exterior insulating finish system, a built-up roofing system, roof-top HVAC units and pavement around the building with an asphalt parking lot and loading dock. The building was originally constructed at the end of the 1980’s.

The majority of the work is structural and includes but is not limited to: four concrete shear walls, grade beams, new caisson foundations, a new carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) roof diaphragm reinforcing system laminated to the existing double tee precast concrete roof beams, and a new cast-in-place concrete collector element at the roof. The quantity of structural concrete that will be needed is estimated at approximately 500 cuyds.

Work required in support of the upgrade includes: existing roofing system demolition, removal of portions of the existing exterior insulating finish system, removal of lightning protection, minor portions of roof drainage piping and roof drains, new mechanical units and ductwork required to tie to the existing ductwork, minor electrical work, a lightning protection system, miscellaneous utility extension and relocation and minor pavement patching.

The portion of the project (to be contracted) is estimated to cost between 3 million and 4.75 million dollars and is scheduled to begin construction in summer of 2017.

The structural elements of the project are deemed ML-2 and will require the contractor to have a certified NQA-1 Quality Assurance Program as well as recent experience with Management Level (ML)-1 and/or ML-2 projects at a DOE Facility.
