About this file

The document is a map and description for the Railroad 23/24 Timber Sale contract opportunity from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service. The 267-acre timber sale is located on the John M. Bethea State Forest in Baker County, Florida and involves a fourth-row thinning and logger select of 23- to 33-year-old planted slash pine. The contract is for 12 months and the estimated timber volumes to be removed are 10,390 tons of pulpwood and 4,402 tons of chip-and-saw and better. The Florida Forest Service reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive any irregularity in bids received.

The timber sale has a target basal area of 70 square feet per acre, with diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees to be harvested first, followed by a portion of the intermediate and co-dominant trees. Leave trees should be evenly spaced throughout the sale area. The timber sale is divided into two areas, with Area One containing 244 acres and Area Two containing 23 acres.
