About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for Solicitation S-63500-00013955 related to the Empire Lake Fishing Dock & Gangway Fabrication project in Oregon. The Q&A addresses six specific technical queries from potential bidders about the fabrication project, covering details such as material specifications, surface finishing, and component requirements. Key clarifications include confirming that all bare aluminum parts will receive a soda blast finish, the shore mount is a supply-only item with no installation required, and two 48" x 48" x 12" floats will be used for the gangway.
The Q&A provides critical technical guidance for bidders, specifically noting that the aluminum gangway will not require full galvanization due to aluminum's rust-resistant properties, though the steel shore mount will need galvanization. The document also clarifies surface treatment details, explaining that soda blast will be the final finish for most components, with transition plates receiving an additional traction coating as specified in the plan-set. These clarifications help potential vendors understand the precise technical expectations for the fabrication project, reducing ambiguity in the bidding process and ensuring potential contractors have accurate information about material and finish requirements.

Solicitation S-63500-00013955 – Empire Lake Fishing Dock & Gangway Fabrication
Questions & Answers
1. Dock Material list calls out "CFC -Aluminum" What is that referring to? My supplier does not know either.
Please disregard the call out for CFC Aluminum.
2. Is the dock getting soda blast finish just like the Gangway ramp?
Yes, all bare aluminum parts get soda blasted.
3. Is soda blast finish the final finish for this project?
Yes. Soda blast is the final finish, except for the transition plates that are coated with the traction coating called out in the plan-set.
4. I did not see anything that talked about installing the shore mount that looks like it will need to be set in concrete. Is this a supply only item?
Yes, this is a supply only item. No installation required.
5. On the gangway drawing there is a float specified as 48" x 48" x 12" (buoy 878). It isn't shown in the model where or how many floats are on the gangway. Is this something you have more detail on?
There are two of the floats for the gangway, and the mounting bracket that is required is on the drawing under details.
6. Does the Gangway need to be completely galvanized or just certain parts?
You cannot galvanize aluminum and would never have to since it will not rust. So, no they will not have to galvanize the entire gangway since it is being built out of aluminum. They will have to galvanize the shore mount since it is built out of steel.
