About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) response document exchanged between Neuman Pools, Inc. and the City of Sun Prairie regarding Project 18FAC36 Pool Pump Replacement for the Family Aquatic Center. The RFI, submitted on November 29, 2018, addressed technical concerns regarding suction pipe sizing and velocity requirements for the pool recirculation system. Specifically, Neuman Pools identified that existing Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 pipe sizes could not accommodate the operational flow rate of 1,510 gallons per minute or the maximum flow rate of 2,010 gallons per minute for the selected equipment. The contractor proposed converging the existing 8-inch line from the surge tank into the 10-inch line using a 12-inch by 8-inch by 10-inch tee configuration before the strainer, with concerns regarding code compliance. The City of Sun Prairie, through Patrick Eagan, approved the proposed solution on November 30, 2018, confirming that utilizing the existing 8-inch line and teeing it into the existing 10-inch line before the valve and strainer was acceptable.
No additional pricing, funding source, or contract term information is contained within this RFI response document. The response confirms acceptance of the suggested modification without identifying this change as a formal change order or pricing adjustment.

Questions or Concerns:
Subject: Suction Pipe Size Velocity
Questions: Pipe size velocity in both SCH40 and 80 cannot accommodate the operational (1,510 GPM) or max (2010 GPM) flow requirements for selected equipment.
Suggestions: Do not cap the existing 8” line from surge tank and converge into the 10” with a 12”x8”x10” tee to pass into the strainer. Not sure if this will work per code requirements.
