STATEMENT OF WORK
Spectrometer Single Mixing System
Ann Arbor Health Care Systems-Research Project Overview
This project aligns with the objectives to conduct rapid enzyme kinetics experiments in the Auchus Research Laboratory at Ann Arbor VA. The system used in the laboratory to this point is over 20 years old and not operating properly, and we are no longer able to obtain parts and service for the system. Acquisition of a single mixing system and required accessories will enable the laboratory to perform experiments, which will determine how steroid-metabolizing enzymes change upon binding their substrates and cofactor proteins to enable their function.
Due to the specific nature of this equipment and the research done by the laboratory, the required equipment must provide the necessary combination of features and performance characteristics to reliably complete the planned research studies.
3 | P a g e 36C25026Q0764
Purpose of the Project
The primary objective is to study how certain steroid-metabolizing enzymes change their physical states upon binding steroid molecules and cofactor proteins. The information gained from these experiments will assist in the design of strategies to inhibit, enhance, or change the activities of these enzymes to treat diseases.
Background
The research projects in the Auchus laboratory require multiple rapid (<1 second) spectroscopic measurements of enzyme after mixing with steroid and/or cofactor proteins. These experiments require a sophisticated instrument to perform multiple rapid and sensitive measures of ultraviolet/visible and fluorescence spectra to achieve the goals outlined in ongoing and planned research initiatives.
Hours of Operations for On-Stie Needs
Delivery of new equipment and services should be done within the administrative hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm, excluding all Federal holidays and weekends, at all VANIHCS facilities.
Federal holidays include:
a. New Years Day
b. Martin Luther King Day
c. Presidents Day
d. Memorial Day
e. Juneteenth
f. Independence Day
g. Labor Day
h. Columbus Day
i. Veterans Day
j. Thanksgiving
