About this file
This is a Performance Work Statement (PWS) for chrome plating services on a naval hydraulic component. The contractor must remove existing chrome plating and install new chrome plating on one SUBSAFE/VEL hydraulic accumulator cylinder measuring 39.25 inches long and 16 inches in outside diameter, constructed of bimetal cast material (exterior: ASTM A487 Class CA-6NM, interior: ASTM A743 Grade CF-3M). The work is being procured by Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF) for the USS Jimmy Carter. The performance period spans May 22, 2026 through August 22, 2026, and the award will be a firm-fixed price contract.
The contractor must complete several specific tasks including: verifying chrome plating tank hardness capabilities in accordance with ASTME 384-22 and SAE AMS 2460 Rev B Class 2 within five days of completion; receiving and inspecting the cylinder with detailed measurements of inner diameter and total indicator runout both in the as-received condition and after removal of existing plating; applying chrome plating to a minimum thickness of 0.002 inches and maximum of 0.025 inches to the inner diameter; and ensuring final dimensions of 13.474"/13.478" with maximum total indicator runout of 0.002 inches and surface finish of 8-16 RHR per NAVSEA Drawing 6405530 Rev E. The contractor must furnish all personnel, equipment, supplies, facilities, and services, while the Government will crate and ship the cylinder to the contractor's facility. Three deliverables are required: an Acceptance Test Report on hardness capability and two Condition Found Reports detailing measurements before and after plating, with submissions to the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) within specified timeframes.
