Performance Work Statement (PWS)
Service Contract for MARS6 Microwave Digestion System
24 November 2021
Performance Work Statement (PWS) Service Contract for the MARS6 Microwave Digestion System
Introduction A service contract for the MARS6 Microwave Digestion System is needed for continued operation of the instrument. This is a patented instrument and only a CEM Corporation certified company capable of support, maintenance, or upgrades to ensure manufacturing specifications are maintained is required.
Mission The Environmental Processes Branch (EPP) of the ERDC Environmental Laboratory supports customer/stakeholder decision making for the Corps, the Army, and the DOD by providing research and technical expertise in the area of toxicology, systems biology, conservation, microbiology, soil science and beyond. The Soil & Sediment Geochemistry Team (SSGT) study the fate and transport of contaminants in soils and sediments to develop novel tools to meet customer needs. The main goal of the SSGT is to characterize the chemistry by which contaminants interact with environmental solids to aid in the determination of remediation strategies.
A service contract for the MARS6 Microwave Digestion System will enable the SSGT to continue meeting project goals.
Background
The US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Environmental Laboratory (EL), Environmental Processes Branch (EP-P) requires means to monitor how stressors and/or contaminants impact microbes, insects, birds, and mammals as well as the fate and transport of contaminants through the environment. The MARS6 Microwave Digestion System allows SSGT members to prepare samples using various type of digestion procedures. Once samples are prepared, SSGT members are able to determine the composition of the samples which aids in understanding the chemistry of how a contaminant interacts and moves through soils and sediments.
