EXISTING CONDITIONS

3.1 General

A. There are three Penstock intake gates (one per unit) at the Falcon Power Plant. The gates are roller gates affixed to a large vertical hydraulic cylinder. The gate hydraulic system is original, and the last rehabilitation on gates #2 and #3 was performed in 1985. The last rehabilitation on penstock gate #1 was performed in 2020. The rehab consisted of sand-blasting and painting of the gates and cylinder. The age of the gate seals is unknown. There are numerous micro-leaks in the hydraulic power units and controls. There is prevalent corrosion on the penstock gates #2 and #3, but it appears to be mostly superficial. The gate seals provided an 80% to 90% seal. Leakage is located at the seal and not the gate structure.
